Woody Biggs describes himself: “As born and bred North Carolinian, I grew up in eastern NC and have lived in Raleigh for 30 years. I have seen the astronomical growth here and the good and the bad that comes with that. I love our city and want it to be the best it can be and a safe place for all residents.”
Woody delivered the following remarks at the May 2, 2023 City Council meeting:
I had a presentation planned but it will have to wait for another night as we have more Glenwood South crime to discuss.
Three weekends ago within an 8-hour span we had gunfire in a Glenwood South apartment and then outside. Hours later someone walked into a Glenwood South restaurant and stabbed someone. And then hours later there was gunfire on Peace Street by Glenwood.
I recently saw a lady who asked me how is Glenwood South? She has asked her daughter not to be in Glenwood South later at night as it is not safe. She said why isn’t the city doing something about Glenwood South.
When people talk to me about Glenwood South, as many do, that is the most frequent line said to me…Why isn’t the city doing something about Glenwood South. And when they say the city they are thinking of you all up there as you are the face of the city.
For years the city has done little to get a handle on Glenwood South and I think the chickens have come home to roost. The public sees Glenwood South as a problem area and increasingly crime ridden yet the city sees it as vibrant.
The listserve for Cameron Park is lighting up with how they are now being affected by Glenwood South. People are parking in the neighborhood and walking to Glenwood South only to return in the early morning hours waking up residents and causing a disturbance.
Two weeks ago, a group of young men were parked on a Cameron Park Street and at 3AM one of the group tried to kick in the front door of a house. The house just happens to be the personal home of Governor and Mrs. Cooper. I want to read to you how the First Lady of North Carolina closed her listserve post:
“This is not what “vibrancy” looks like to me.”
