This chart details the number of times each committee has met after council took office in December 2024.
Raleigh City Council has four standing committees each composed of four City Councilors.

- Economic Development & Innovation
- Housing and Environment (formerly Growth and Natural Resources)
- Community Safety and Quality of Life (formerly Safe, Vibrant, and Healthy Communities)
- Transportation and Transit
These committees are scheduled to meet monthly to review policies, vet proposals and take public input before items go to the full council.
These committee meetings are cancelled more often than not.
These committees are not to be confused with Boards and Commissions which are staffed by citizen volunteers. Read more here: Council Committees
Obtaining public input at these meetings is an important part of City Council Members’ responsibilities.
These are the ONLY council meetings where the public can provide input without a predetermined time limit.
During public comment sessions, held twice a month at City Council meetings, speakers are limited to from one to three minutes based on the number of speakers.
At public hearings each side of an issue, pro or con, is limited to a total of eight minutes regardless of the number of speakers.
You may recall in December 2022 the City Council raised their own salaries citing the need to be compensated fairly for the amount of work expected. Read our previous reporting here: City Council Pay
In September 2025, they raised their own salaries again.
It was about that time, after a second self-initiated pay raise, three of the four council committees just stopped meeting entirely!
As a result, residents were denied the ability to provide feedback on important issues that affect their lives.
Taxpayers are like employers — they pay city council members’ salaries.
