Council Committees

Raleigh City Council has four standing committees each composed of four City Councilors.

  • Housing and Environment
  • Community Safety and Quality of Life
  • Transportation and Transit

These committees are scheduled to meet monthly to review policies, vet proposals and take public input before items go to the full council.

Taking public input at these meetings is an important part of their responsibility. These are the ONLY meetings where the public can provide input without a pre-determined time limit.

At Council’s bi-monthly public comments sessions speakers are limited to from 1 – 3 minutes based on the number of speakers.

At public hearings each side of an issue, pro or con, is limited to a total of 8 minutes regardless of the number of speakers.

This chart details the number of times each committee has met starting when this council took office in December 2024.

You may recall in December 2022 the City Council raised their salaries citing the need to be compensated fairly for the amount of work expected. Read our previous reporting here: City Council Pay

In September 2025, they raised their salaries again.

It was about that time that 3 of the 4 committees just stopped meeting.
