A. 4:00 P.M. WORK SESSION CALLED TO ORDER BY THE MAYOR
1. CAMPO Southeast Area Study (SEAS) Update
- The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) has been conducting an update of their Southeast Area Study, which evaluates future land use and multimodal transportation options for parts of southeast Wake County, and northwest Johnston County. CAMPO has produced a full report that will assist with programming of future capital projects and transportation initiatives for this area. A full version of the study can be found on the project website at https://www.seasupdate.com/.
- The recommendations of the study are consistent with the 2030 Raleigh Comprehensive Plan and no subsequent local amendments or changes are required at this time. CAMPO staff is seeking endorsements from member communities within the study area prior to adoption of the study by the CAMPO Executive Board. A consent agenda item will appear on the regular May 21, 2024 meeting agenda for Council to act on the study endorsement.
2. Community Climate Action Plan Implementation Report Update
- During the work session staff will present highlights from the 2024 Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) Implementation Report, and the newly updated community greenhouse gas inventory. The presentation will highlight key objectives of CCAP and provide information on the actions that have been accomplished to date. The presentation will share several highlights from the Implementation Report and the report will be released to the public shortly thereafter.
- City Council adopted the CCAP in 2021 as a means of reaching Council goal of an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050, in addition to addressing equity, environmental justice, community health, and building community resilience to the impacts of climate change. Information on the City’s efforts with regard to climate action, including the current CCAP adopted in March 2021, are available on the City website.
