FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 27, 2026
Livable Raleigh recommends that the Raleigh City Council pause consideration of any new data centers pending a careful study of their benefits and impacts, with public engagement and adoption of a data center review process.
Review process items would include:
-
- long term costs to provide, upgrade and maintain power, water and other resources and infrastructure systems to the facility,
- environmental impacts and mitigations including air, water, light and noise pollution,
- land use suitability of the proposed site, and
- a fiscal analysis of costs and benefits to the city and Raleigh residents.
