Livable Raleigh’s new 2024 citywide poll of registered Raleigh voters conducted by nationally recognized, professional polling firm, Public Policy Polling was published Tuesday, July 23. You can read our press release here: Voter confidence falls
At publication time we included contact information at PPP for any questions about the polling methodology used. That contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.
For anyone who is hesitant to contact PPP, we have put together this quick primer on polling and the accuracy levels of polls.
Our poll was conducted by PPP using a database of Raleigh Registered voters. It is NOT a poll of self-selected followers of Livable Raleigh.
The poll surveyed 481 registered Raleigh voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 4.5% and a 95% confidence level.
We hesitated to include this data in our original post because most people do not have a full understanding of accurate sample sizes and preferred to have those with questions speak with the professionals at Public Policy Polling for a full explanation.
Sample Size
There are several poll “calculators” available online that you can use to verify that this number of participants is an industry standard for a city the size of Raleigh. In fact, you will find that this sample size is accurate for an unlimited population size as well.
For comparison purposes, here is an explanation from the New York Times for their recent Times/Siena poll which surveyed 1,142 registered voters nationwide for a statistically accurate poll.
If you still have questions, please contact the professionals at Public Policy Polling.
