Tonight I’m actually here to speak in solidarity with Kristen Havlik on the issue concerning protection for reproductive care clinics and the people who will be impacted by all the laws that will be imposed affecting the issue of abortion and reproductive rights.
But, based on what we have heard from the City Attorney on that issue already, I think I am going to talk about a different topic.
Over the past few years, I have seen the city consistently hides behind fear of being sued by the NC General Assembly when we call for something like Community Benefits Agreements. We are hoping you can do more and it comes back to the city doesn’t want to be sued.
Raleigh is supposed to be the Capital City of NC. A lot of other municipalities are looking to you to see what you are doing and you should be setting an example. If you are the progressive city you claim to be, you should be doing more to challenge the NC General Assembly which is predominantly Republican and frankly, regressive.
If you are bowing down to them, what does that say about you and your morals and your philosophy?
What do you stand for if you can’t stand up for the people?
That is all I have to say.
Thank You
