Dear Raleigh City Councilor Silver,
Due to a family commitment, I am unable to attend Tuesday’s city council meeting so would like to email you my concerns with the proposed North Hills rezoning.
1) I have read that most of the people speaking in favor of the rezoning at the previous meeting did not reside anywhere close to North Hills. I feel that you should make a motion before resident comments that you only hear from people who are in close proximity to the rezoning. We are the ones who are impacted. I also question the possibility that the “pro” speakers were plants of Mr. Kane.
2) I am very concerned with losing the current firehouse at the corner of Rowan Street and Six Fork Road. I googled a map of all the Raleigh fire stations, and there really is no other fire station anywhere close to the North Hills area. The removal of this station will put lives and property in significant danger as the timing to attend to fire and life emergencies will be greatly lengthened. The city council must assure that the fire station is either retained and rebuilt, and that the current station is not demolished until a new station is operating in the area.
3) Currently even the shadows of the 4-story apartment building abutting Rowan Street places shadows over Rowan Street so that it often remains a sheet of ice days after other roads clear. This makes it increasingly difficult for nearby residents to drive out of our area.
These three concerns are in addition to other concerns you most likely have heard from nearby residents such as the increasing traffic.
Thank you for serving as our City Council representative and thank you for considering and hopefully representing my concerns as the council deliberates the rezoning request.
If you appreciate the kind of reporting we bring to you
