This poem showed up in our inbox shortly after the Mayor’s State of he City address. We found it amusing and are sharing it here:
The State of the City (or at least the Beltline)
Listen, Raleigh’s got charms, but let’s be for real:
The “City of Oaks” is a whole different deal.
The Mayor’s in City Hall, sipping her tea,
While we’re stuck in traffic on I-440.
-
Condos for Days:
They’re popping up fast,
With “luxury” finishes built not to last.
$2,000 a month for a box in the sky?
Honey, even the squirrels think that’s way too high.
-
The North Hills Shuffle:
It’s shiny and new,
But finding a park is a nightmare for you.
The Mayor says, “Walk! Use a bike or a bus!”
But those hills in the heat? That’s a “no” from all us.
-
Dix Park Dreams:
A vision so grand,
The Central Park of our Southern land.
It’s lovely, it’s green, it’s a beautiful sight—
Just ignore the cranes blocking out all the light.
A Little Note to Herroner
“We’re growing! we’re glowing!” the press release says,
While Fayetteville Street is in a bit of a haze.
We love the tech money and the fancy new food,
But a little more soul wouldn’t ruin the mood.
The Mayor’s got plans and a very nice suit,
Telling us Raleigh is “ripening fruit.”
Just remember, dear Leader, amidst all the hype:
If you don’t fix the potholes, the fruit’s overripe.
If you appreciate the kind of reporting we bring to you
