I have been coming here since December 2022 to talk about Glenwood South crime and noise issues. When I was here May 2nd I brought up the recent issue which happened at Governor and Mrs. Cooper’s personal residence. Now onto noise, for about 1-1/2 years the city has been talking about revising the current noise ordinance which is horrible and almost impossible to enforce. On Dec 6th the previous city attorney said, in the council meeting, the new noise ordinance would be out in about 2 months.
Mary-Ann Baldwin, proud to be Mayor of Drunktown, now concerned and “working diligently” to stop the drunks. Except …
On April 19, 2023 the News and Observer ran a story on mayors calling for action on gun control. But, Mayor Baldwin is conspicuously absent from the list of three NC mayors and over 150 mayors nationwide calling for action.
Vibrancy kicking on the wrong door!
Two weeks ago, a group of young men were parked on a Cameron Park Street and at 3AM one of the group tried to kick in the front door of a house. There are obvious loopholes in existing laws that allow this type of business to remain open until 5:30am.
Glenwood South can control the noise & still thrive
This city has let the area get wild and out of control. A factor is the extremely loud music being played which can be heard blocks away and in the homes of residents. My neighbor and I came to the council 2 years ago and we got a lot of nice talk but no action. Officers have told me the current noise control system is as frustrating for them as it is for residents.
