Highlights from September 5 Council Meetings
I went to Glenwood South and made it out ALIVE!
I have been coming here since last year to talk about Glenwood South vandalism, brutal assaults, stabbings and gunfire. Raleigh citizens do not think you are doing anything about this issue. People in Raleigh want a safe place to live. In honor of what the city has let Glenwood South become I am wearing a t-shirt I had made. It reads ‘I went to Glenwood South and made it out Alive.’
Victimized by Vibrancy – Part II
This issue has been on City Council’s agenda for nearly two years now going back to Sept 2021. The Council has been very timid in their responses over this time. Council’s response to the latest wave of crime and neighborhood vandalism was all talk and no action, except to ask staff for another report in a month or two.
City Council June 20 Work Session and Afternoon Session
Public comments focused on gentrification, homelessness, crime, Glenwood South, transit, traffic calming, historic preservation, and several criticisms of Mayor Baldwin and her actions or lack thereof.
Vibrancy – Part 3 – Now onto Noise
I have been coming here since December 2022 to talk about Glenwood South crime and noise issues. When I was here May 2nd I brought up the recent issue which happened at Governor and Mrs. Cooper’s personal residence. Now onto noise, for about 1-1/2 years the city has been talking about revising the current noise ordinance which is horrible and almost impossible to enforce. On Dec 6th the previous city attorney said, in the council meeting, the new noise ordinance would be out in about 2 months.
June 6 City Council Meetings
June 6 City Council Meetings HIGHLIGHTS Several councilors asked that rezoning case schedules be managed to limit the number at each meeting so that each case receives appropriate time and attention. Planning staff will come back with schedule suggestions. Unanimously...
May 16 Council Work Session and Afternoon Session
Election Reform, City budget, housing, crime, and rezoning requests
Mary-Ann Baldwin, proud to be Mayor of Drunktown, now concerned and “working diligently” to stop the drunks. Except …
On April 19, 2023 the News and Observer ran a story on mayors calling for action on gun control. But, Mayor Baldwin is conspicuously absent from the list of three NC mayors and over 150 mayors nationwide calling for action.
Vibrancy kicking on the wrong door!
Two weeks ago, a group of young men were parked on a Cameron Park Street and at 3AM one of the group tried to kick in the front door of a house. The house just happens to be the personal home of Governor and Mrs. Cooper. I want to read to you how the First Lady of North Carolina closed her listserv post: “This is not what “vibrancy” looks like to me.”
Glenwood South can control the noise & still thrive
This city has let the area get wild and out of control. A factor is the extremely loud music being played which can be heard blocks away and in the homes of residents. My neighbor and I came to the council 2 years ago and we got a lot of nice talk but no action. Officers have told me the current noise control system is as frustrating for them as it is for residents.
