We’ve been waiting patiently for the details to appear on the City’s Events Calendar so we can add the information to our calendar and publicize this important event. With less than three weeks to go before the retreat is scheduled to occur, the City’s Events Calendar still does not give us the time, the place, the agenda or even an indication as to if the event will be live-streamed or recorded for those who cannot make it to the undisclosed location.
Councilors Melton, Forte & Branch betray the people to serve Baldwin
ALL voters should remember this betrayal when next year’s election comes around. All four of the councilors who voted to restrict the time of the speakers have made it known they plan to run for re-election. What the four of them all said at this meeting is that voters CANNOT TRUST them to honor the commitments they make to the people of Raleigh.
Meaningful engagement involves listening, hearing & taking action
Listening sessions with no action eventually lead to lack of resident belief that resident needs are indeed being heeded which results in demoralization of residents, or perhaps that is the intent.
Council didn’t like your election survey answers. So this time they’re ‘helping’ you get them ‘right’.
Raleigh City Council is doing another survey about election reform. We say another because they did a survey on the topic and published those results in January 2022. But, they didn’t like your answers. So, they are commissioning another survey and this time they are wording the questions differently to try to get answers they like.
October 17, 2023 City Council Meetings
Highlights from October 17 work session and afternoon session
Baldwin violates Council Code while pounding gavel and shedding crocodile tears
This is a woman who does NOT possess the requisite demeanor to be mayor. She is unable to deal with criticism from the public nor with a challenge from her peers to her “alpha” position without lashing out in anger.
Mayor Bald-whine lend me your ears
I quote the Mayor, “Obviously that fell on deaf ears, so that’s unfortunate.” A couple of fitting expressions come to mind. “Welcome to the club!” and, “Now, the shoe is on the other foot.” Do our citizens who feel concerned about the sweeping changes proposed for the New Bern Avenue TOD corridor feel that ears are hearing what they have to say about the risks of gentrification and displacement of Raleigh’s most economically challenged citizens?
OCTOBER 10, 2023 CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
Highlights from October 10 Work Session and Public Comments Meeting
Good government demands public input
Last month’s move to shorten time for public comments was detrimental to the preservation of good governance. Government works best when multiple and diverse stakeholders participate and share viewpoints and ideas with elected officials.
We deserve the Truth!
Staff went on WRAL to say that they discussed this decision with all internal stake holders and the decision was made across the organization. So, you can image my shock when councilor after city councilor made public comments that they were, in fact, not part of the decision making. They were in fact, shocked that this decision was made. So, I am here today on behalf of all local Raleigh businesses and I want to know what is the truth. Did the city actually make the decision across all departments necessary? Did they even bother to reach out to the family of Hailey Brooks before they made these comments?
