  • Celebrating Art & Transportation on Blue Ridge Road

    Blue Ridge Road South is Complete! The City is excited to celebrate the completion of the Blue Ridge Road South project with a ribbon-cutting event! We made improvements to Blue Ridge Road between Duraleigh Road and Homewood Banks Drive. Key features include new sidewalks, a multi-use path, and roadway upgrades. Explore the project page for features and project details!  Art and Poetry Along the Corridor The Public Artist team, Marino Heidel, created sculptures at nine locations throughout the corridor. Taking inspiration from nine of North Carolina's poet laureates, the artists designed each sculpture as a visual interpretation of the poems. The project is a poetry walk experience along the corridor, with poems at each site. Participating Poet Laureates include: Jackie Shelton Green, Shelby Stephenson, Joseph Bathanti, Cathy Smith Bowers, Kathryn Stripling Byer, Fred Davis Chappell, Sam Ragan, James Larkin Pearson, and Arthur Talmage Abernathy.

  • Celebrating Art & Transportation on Poole Road

    Poole Road Widening is Complete! The City is excited to celebrate the completion of the Poole Road Widening Project with a ribbon-cutting event! We made improvements to Poole Road from Maybrook Drive to Barwell Road. Changes include a widened roadway, median, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities. Learn more about the improvements on Poole Road! Art and Poetry Along the Corridor Public Artist Sharon Dowell designed unique bus shelters and a sculptural bench for the Neuse River trailhead as part of the street improvement project. Her art will provide a welcoming space for transit riders and trailhead visitors while showcasing the creativity of local writers. Inspired by the work of the Carolina African American Writers Collective, the artwork features haiku by North Carolina poets and collective members Lenard Moore, Patricia A. Johnson, and Valeria Bullock
