OCTOBER 9, 2020 is the deadline for Registering to Vote in the upcoming 2020 General Election.
HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE
Eligibility Requirements to Vote in Wake County
- You must be a citizen of the U. S.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
- If you are 17 years of age and you will be 18 by the upcoming election (November 3, 2020) you can register to vote now.
- You must be a legal resident of Wake County for at least 30 days before the start of the upcoming election (November 3, 2020).
- You must not be actively on probation or parole for a Felony Conviction.
Are you registering to vote for the first time in your county of residence? There are many options for registering to vote but here are the easiest and most direct ways to register to vote.
Online Access to NC Voter Registration
There are two ways to access Voter Registration online: 1) Request a NC Voter Registration Form online to fill out and return via mail, email or Fax or 2) If you have a NC Driver’s License or DMV-issued ID, you can go to the DMV site directly. (www.ncdot.gov/dmv/voter)
To receive NC Voter Registration Form online go to the Wake County Board of Elections website (www.readytovote.com ).
- Click the “Register to Vote” button.
- The North Carolina Voter Registration Form will appear.
- Print it out.
- Fill it in. Double-check it to make sure all of the required boxes are filled out.
- SIGN it yourself. (Electronic or typed signatures are not acceptable.)
There are three ways you can submit this signed, completed form by October 9, 2020.

- You may register to vote online if you have a NC Driver’s License or a DMV-issued ID. (www.ncdot.gov/dmv/voter). You will be directed to the MyNCDMV app. Download the MyNCDMV app and proceed to register to vote.
TIP: If you have moved and need to update your voter registration address, or if you want to verify your registration, you can do this at www.readytovote.com or you can call the special voter hotline at the Wake County Board of Elections at 919-404-4040 Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 5:15 PM.
Phone Access to NC Voter Registration Form and Information
To obtain a Voter Registration Form, call 919-404-4040 from 8:30 AM – 5:15 PM Monday – Friday. You have the choice of having the Voter Registration Form sent to you by way of the U. S. Postal Service mail or sent to you via email. You will talk to a voter specialist who can answer any questions you have about voter registration or voting in general.

IN-PERSON VOTER REGISTRATION AND SAME-DAY REGISTRATION AND VOTING
There are two easy ways to register to vote in person.
- You can go to the Wake County Board of Elections Office and complete the NC Voter Registration Form in person from 8:30 – 5:15 PM Monday – Friday.

TIP: One of the quickest ways to register to vote online is to click on www.vote.org. Another quick resource is the DMV website if you are a DMV customer. You will have to download the MyNCDMV app to submit your registration. Click www.ncdot.gov/dmv/voter and go to Online Voter Registration.
- You can register to vote and cast your vote on the same day during the Early Voting period from October 15 – October 31, 2020 at an Early Voting location near you. Click here: Wake County Early Voting Sites. (See the Early Voting Locations and Schedule on the Early Voting page of this site.)
The process for registering to vote and casting a vote on the same day during the Early Voting period or at the Board of Elections is not hard but you should be informed before you arrive.
All you need to have is your NC Driver’s License and/or your last four digits of your Social Security number and something that proves your residential address located in Wake County where you have resided for at least 30-days – like a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address. You can register and vote on the same day during the October 15 – 31, 2020 period. (www.wakegov.com/elections/info/early ). If you prefer, you can call 919-404-4040 Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM to obtain this information.
TIP: Since you will be voting the same day you are registering, we recommend planning ahead so you allow yourself adequate time to complete this process.
