The City of Raleigh is piloting a waste collection system in part of the downtown central business district with above-ground containers. The containers are called TRAC bins (Trash, Recycling, and Cardboard). Their purpose is to replace the 95-gallon carts occupying sidewalks to reduce contamination and enhance the safety and cleanliness of downtown Raleigh. Every spring, Raleigh Arts and United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County partners with Wake County Public School System to produce Gifts of Gold, a temporary art exhibition of Wake County student-made artwork. More than 100 Wake County students, ranging from kindergarteners to high school seniors, are represented in the exhibition. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 20th at 9:30 AM at the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center with District D City Councilor Jane Harrison. We will discuss the downtown municipal service district (MSD). The Downtown Raleigh Alliance will explain its role in providing safety, cleaning, and business development services via the MSD. Raleigh City Council is considering expanding the downtown MSD borders to better cover areas like Glenwood South. This meeting will be in-person only and we plan to have Zoom access back at the next meeting. Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Workshop We host stream monitoring workshops throughout the year where you learn how to monitor stream health and water quality in Raleigh. Space is usually limited to 15 participants. Workshop Details When: Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Where: Walnut Creek Wetland Park (950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC 27610) Register for the upcoming stream monitoring workshop! The workshop will cover basic stream ecology and includes both classroom and (weather permitting) in-stream activities. The workshop will cover stormwater basics, an introduction to water quality, and practice collecting water quality and biological samples in the stream. Hop on your bike for a ride into Raleigh's history. The Raleigh Historic Development Commission (RHDC), in partnership with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC), will be hosting a bike ride that will begin and end at Crank Arm Brewing. The 6-mile route includes stops at five Raleigh Historic Landmarks including: - Dr. M. T. Pope House- Lemuel and Julia Delany House- St. Agnes Hospital- Mary Elizabeth Hospital- Seaboard Coast Line Railroad Building RHDC volunteers at each site will share a brief history of the property. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets. Limited bike rentals will be available through the Bike Library at Crank Arm. A few free Cardinal Share e-bikes will also be available. Water and restrooms are not provided along the route. QR codes to a digital route map and group bike leads & sweeps will help ensure everyone bikes safely along the route. Register to attend.
