DDNA Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 20th at 9:30 AM at the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center with District D City Councilor Jane Harrison. We will discuss the downtown municipal service district (MSD). The Downtown Raleigh Alliance will explain its role in providing safety, cleaning, and business development services via the MSD. Raleigh City Council is considering expanding the downtown MSD borders to better cover areas like Glenwood South. This meeting will be in-person only and we plan to have Zoom access back at the next meeting. Hope to see you there!

Volunteer Stream Monitoring Workshop

Join us for a volunteer Stream Monitoring Workshop! Upcoming Workshop We host stream monitoring workshops throughout the year where you learn how to monitor stream health and water quality in Raleigh. Space is usually limited to 15 participants. Workshop Details When: Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Where: Walnut Creek Wetland Park (950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC 27610) Register for the upcoming stream monitoring workshop! The workshop will cover basic stream ecology and includes both classroom and (weather permitting) in-stream activities. The workshop will cover stormwater basics, an introduction to water quality, and practice collecting water quality and biological samples in the stream. The workshop is a prerequisite for participation in Raleigh's volunteer stream monitoring program, but is open to all. Please come with closed-toed shoes and long pants. RELATED LINKS

Latta University Historic Park Dedication

Join Raleigh Parks for the dedication of Latta University Historic Park! This park contributes to a rich history that deepens our understanding of African American life in Raleigh at the turn of the 20th century. All parking for this event will be at Jaycee Park (2405 Wade Ave, Raleigh, NC 27607), which is a five-minute walk from Latta University Historic Park (1001 Parker Street, Raleigh, NC 27607). Transportation from the parking area to the event via trolley will also be available starting at 3:45 p.m. After the dedication ceremony, friends of Oberlin Village will host their 10th Annual Celebrate Oberlin event. 10th Annual Celebrate Oberlin Event

Be Our Guest! Join us for an exciting evening meeting new friends or reuniting with neighbors at FOV's 10th Annual Celebrate Oberlin event. This year's celebratory event will be held on April 20, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. on the beautiful grounds of Raleigh's newest park - Latta University Historic Park.   Enjoy the evening visiting a mobile library of education tables featuring:  Oberlin Pioneers in Medicine hosted by WakeMed, radar scans of Oberlin Cemetery conducted by former NCSU doctoral student John Wall, Oberlin Veterans from various military campaigns, and other education displays. Dance the night away or relax on a blanket on the grassy knolls listening to the live performance of EPIC, whose playlist will include jazz and gospel. Stroll through the park and read the interpretive signage honoring Latta University. Learn about the landmark structures along Oberlin Road by partaking in a free Historic Trolley Tour of Oberlin offered throughout the evening by FOV volunteers. Satiate your appetite with offerings by two gourmet food trucks:  Oak City Fish & Chips and Sweet's Turkey BBQ.
