  • Raleigh Historic Bike Ride

    Celebrating Historic Preservation and America’s 250th Birthday This May, we’re celebrating Preservation Month, Bike Month, and America’s 250th Birthday! Grab your bike for a 5-mile route that will feature stops at five Raleigh Historic Landmarks that span Raleigh’s 250 years of building history! Volunteers will share a brief history at each stop.  The stops include: Joel Lane House - 160 S. St. Mary's St. – Raleigh's oldest surviving dwelling State Capitol & Union Square - 1 E. Edenton St. – The heart of North Carolina government Early Store Building (Heilig-Levine) - 137 S. Wilmington St. – 150+ years of downtown commerce Chavis Park Carousel - 505 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. – A historic park and carousel (Former) BB&T Building - 227 Fayetteville St. – A downtown Raleigh icon Come Prepared The ride will begin and end at Exchange Plaza, located between Wilmington and Fayetteville Streets in downtown. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets. A few free e-bike and scooter rentals will also be available. Water and restrooms are available at the City of Raleigh Museum before/after the ride, but are not provided along the route - please plan accordingly.     Music played a central role in American family life during the 19th and early 20th centuries, long before the advent of television and cellphones. African American households embraced music as a powerful means of self-expression.  Through gospel, jazz, blues, and classical music, African Americans found a way to share their stories, joys, and sorrows. 'Black Joy in the Springtime' beautifully highlights this rich musical heritage at one of Raleigh's historic African American homes. Enjoy a delightful musical performance by Shenette Swann.   • Five Points CAC Virtual Meeting

Johnson will give us a police report for recent crime in the Five Points area.   Eliza Kiser, Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at NCSU will tell us about OLLI which provides non-credit short courses, study trips, and special events for adults ages 50+.  If you, your parents, or grandparents are 50+, they may enjoy the OLLI program.   We will discuss Five Points CAC officer elections.   And Council Member Christina Jones plans to join us to share a City Council update.   Hope to see you in the Zoom meeting.   Edie

  • East CAC Meeting

    Hi Eastsiders! Please mark your calendars for Monday, 11 May 2026 from 7-9 PM for a special East CAC meeting. There has been ongoing incidents of petty crime perpetrated by youths in the neighborhoods west of Raleigh Boulevard. Neighbors are frustrated and are looking for more effective approaches to addressing this crime. I have organized a special East CAC meeting to hear from RPD officers in the Community Impact and Engagement Division and/or the ACORNS and Community Unit regarding better ways we can help curb this activity. Other city officials have been invited and are expected to attend. My hope is that we all leave with some approaches which will benefit everyone involved.
