Public Meeting – May 12, 2026
The City of Raleigh Planning Commission will conduct a public meeting on Tuesday, May 12 at 9 a.m. at the Raleigh Municipal Building, 222 West Hargett Street in the City Council Chamber. Planning Commission meetings can be viewed on the city’s website and RTN 11.

This is a request to establish a Campus Master Plan for Rex Hospital.

This request was heard by the Committee of the Whole on April 23, 2026. The Committee recommended (6-0) that the request be placed on the May 12, 2026 Planning Commission agenda.

A revised Masterplan was provided on May 1, 2026, that provided additional transportation considerations. An intent statement was provided that encourages enhanced bike and pedestrian amenities. A condition was provided that a bike ”Hub” will be provided with the first tier 3 site plan.

The deadline for Planning Commission action is June 16, 2026.

The rezoning is for a 20.27-acre portion of the overall site (22.24 acres). The request would rezone the western and northeastern portions of the site to R-6-CU. Proposed conditions apply a density limit to the site and prohibit certain uses.

The item appeared at the April 28, 2026, Planning Commission meeting. Since then, the applicant has submitted revised conditions that remove the prohibition on different housing types.

This request would increase the maximum height from five (5) to seven (7) stories. It would allow for the Fairweather Condominiums HOA to finish a community room.
