Join the Solid Waste Services Communications team to see first-hand how recyclables get sorted, processed, and prepared.     You've probably encountered PFAS, known as "forever chemicals," without realizing it. They're in everyday items like food packaging, cookware and clothing. The good news: you can reduce your exposure through simple, everyday choices. The City of Raleigh Environmental Advisory Board is partnering with the Office of Sustainability and Raleigh Water to host a virtual community education event. You'll learn what forever chemicals are and how to lower your risk of exposure at home. You’ll leave the event knowing: What forever chemicals are and where exposure comes from How local and national groups are working to reduce PFAS use and exposure Simple steps you can take today to reduce your exposure and support a more resilient Raleigh

  • Stream Monitoring Workshop

    Walnut Creek Wetland Center 950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC

    Learn How to Take Water Samples! Interested in learning more about Raleigh stream ecosystems? We're hosting a volunteer stream monitoring workshop! We'll spend the first part of the workshop in the classroom and the second half in the creek practicing sample collection. This workshop is required for new stream monitoring volunteers but is open to anyone interested in learning more about our streams. When: Saturday, September 19 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Where: Walnut Creek Wetland Park (Neuse River Room, 950 Peterson Street) Details: Individual registration is required. This event is capped at 15 participants. Please come dressed in long pants, close-toed shoes, and ready to hop in the creek.
