Elections, Libraries staff partner on one of largest initiatives to date The Wake County Board of Elections and Wake County Public Libraries are partnering to offer voter services at eight local libraries on Saturdays this summer. Events will take place from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. June 22 through Aug. 17, with the exception of July 6. Board of Elections staff will visit eight libraries over eight weekends to offer voter registration updates and upcoming election information. Visitors will also be able to get a photo voter ID, which is now required to be shown by registered voters who do not already have an acceptable ID. A full list of accepted voter IDs can be found at  ncsbe.gov/voting/voter-id. “We always strive to empower more people to vote in Wake County by making information and resources as accessible as possible,” said Olivia McCall, Board of Elections director. “This collaboration with the libraries is an excellent opportunity for us to provide accurate information and help residents better prepare for the upcoming elections.” The two organizations have worked together to offer voter registration at local libraries for years, but this is one of the largest initiatives ever planned. City Solid Waste and Recycling - Chesley Wiggins, City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services, Waste Diversion Analyst will provide an overview of recycling and City trash collection programs. We should also get an assessment of how Southwest Raleigh collections are performing based on a Composition Study of recyclable materials. I suspect we can all learn to make the task easier. (No plastic bags please.) Community Group Forum - Comments and updates from our community leaders and residents. The City Staff proposed South Street closure for a relocated Red Hat Pavilion has received considerable interest. For our September meeting (Monday the 9th at 7:00p.m.) we will be returning to our traditional home at Carolina Pines Community Center. Big Branch Greenway Connector Open House

Help Plan the Big Branch Greenway Connector!  When complete, the Big Branch Greenway Connector will extend from the existing Crabtree Creek Trail, near Wake Forest Road, to Sandy Forks Road. The greenway will traverse approximately 3.5-miles, primarily adjacent to Big Branch, and is proposed to connect to both Eastgate and Cedar Hills Parks. Help plan this new addition to the Capital Area Greenway System by joining a pop-up event on August 6th, attending an in-person project open house on August 14th, participating in a virtual project open house on August 15th or by completing an online survey that will be open through the month of August.
