Big Branch Greenway Connector Pop-Up Event Postponed! The North Hills National Night Out Event, where the Big Branch Greenway Connector Project will host a project pop-up event, has been postponed. This event was originally scheduled for tonight, August 6th, from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm at North Hills Midtown Park, 4011 Cardinal at North Hills Street, Raleigh, NC 27609. Due to inclement weather, this event is being postponed until further notice. A new date will be posted on the Big Branch Greenway Connector Project website when that information is available. Help Plan the Big Branch Greenway Connector!  When complete, the Big Branch Greenway Connector will extend from the existing Crabtree Creek Trail, near Wake Forest Road, to Sandy Forks Road. The greenway will traverse approximately 3.5-miles, primarily adjacent to Big Branch, and is proposed to connect to both Eastgate and Cedar Hills Parks. National Night Out

This year National Night Out will be observed on Aug. 6. In observance of National Night Out, Raleigh Police asks you to leave your porch light on from 7 to 10 p.m. The porch light symbolizes alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome. RPD also asks you to get to know your neighbors better. Stay tuned for 2024 National Night Out locations.

Good Morning Raleigh Firefighter Supporter, On behalf of the over 400 members of the Raleigh Firefighters Association that I represent, I'd like to cordially invite you to our next Meet and Confer Chat. This informal community meeting is an opportunity to sit down with firefighters, residents like yourselves, and elected officials to share frank discussion on the state of your fire department and safety in the City of Raleigh. At this event we will be hosting Councilor Megan Patton (District B), Councilor Jonathan Melton (At-large) and Councilor Mary Black (District A). With elections coming up this fall, we are rallying the community to support your firefighters and the best way to do that is to sit down with elected officials and let them know that is a priority to you (the voters). We're just shy of 50 vacancies now (but we haven't added new firefighters since 2014, for a city this size we are 150 firefighters short), and the City Manager's office is heavily stalling our quest for a critical benefit that would help retain firefighters and make fire protection safer--Separation Allowance. Captain Notch (SE-Southeast), Captain Van Antwerp (DT-Downtown). Our SW area is now part of three Raleigh Police Districts. City Solid Waste and Recycling - Chesley Wiggins, City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services, Waste Diversion Analyst will provide an overview of recycling and City trash collection programs. We should also get an assessment of how Southwest Raleigh collections are performing based on a Composition Study of recyclable materials. I suspect we can all learn to make the task easier. (No plastic bags please.) Community Group Forum - Comments and updates from our community leaders and residents. The City Staff proposed South Street closure for a relocated Red Hat Pavilion has received considerable interest. For our September meeting (Monday the 9th at 7:00p.m.) we will be returning to our traditional home at Carolina Pines Community Center.
