  • National Night Out

The Raleigh Police Department believes the foundation for a safer community is knowing your neighbors and surroundings. National Night Out is an effort to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement. It also promotes neighborhood camaraderie to create a more caring place to live. The event, always on the first Tuesday in August, has been held annually nationwide since 1984. The Raleigh Police Department has supported National Night Out for more than 30 years. This year National Night Out will be observed on Aug. 1. In observance of National Night Out, RPD asks you to leave your porch light on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The porch light symbolizes alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome. RPD also asks you to get to know your neighbors better. If you want a community officer to stop by your National Night event, please email us at Nationalnightout@raleighnc.gov Monday, July 17. Check back here for a list of National Night Out events in your area!
