Hi Neighbors! We’ve got an exciting CAC meeting coming up next Monday the 13th at 7pm. We’ll have a city planner discussing the newest comprehensive plan. The Comp Plan impacts everyone in our city and addresses a range of issues- Housing Choice/Affordability Stormwater Management Traffic/Transportation Trees/Urban Forestry Infrastructure/Services Neighborhoods It’s a long range policy document that establishes a vision for the city and provides guidance for growth and development. In short, it’s SUPER IMPORTANT! As you can probably tell I’m pumped about this meeting, and I’d love to see you all there! As usual we’ll be meeting in the Lions Park Community Center at 7pm on Monday, January 13. Meeting Wednesday January 22nd at 7pm It’s time to meet and talk about what’s going on in West Raleigh! WIth the proposed Lorimer Spring Affordable Housing Development there is increased interest in how transit oriented zoning applies along the Western Blvd corridor. We have Frequent Transit Areas, Frequent Transit Overlay Districts and Bus Rapid Transit Areas. So, how do they all work together in the planning process? Senior Planner Sarah Shaughnessy will answer questions and provide some insight. We are planning to have the Lorimer Spring developer at our February meeting and hope this session will give you relevant data that can inform that discussion. We will provide updates from the District D Neighborhood Alliance meeting held on January 18th and make space for concerns and updates from our members. Happy New Year, I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe New Year. In addition to our normal updates on local police activities and community updates, we will have Tiesha Mosely, Director of Community Engagement as our guest in January. As I previously mentioned,  the Community Engagement and Housing and Neighborhoods groups merged at the end of 2024. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the merger and the anticipated benefits to the residents of Raleigh. As is customary, we will also have our local Councilors (Christina Jones and Mitchell Silver) present to provide updates on items of interest to the community. This will also be an opportunity to meet our former candidate and now our newly elected District A Councilor, Mitchell Silver. We will continue to conduct our meeting in a hybrid format with both in person and(preferred) and virtual audiences. Hi CAC neighbors, Our Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting is tomorrow evening Tuesday, January 28 at 7:00 PM. Our meeting location is at the Pullen Community Center at 408 Ashe Avenue. This meeting is critical to making progress this year with Raleigh’s new community engagement efforts. As you may recall, it was a year ago in early February that District E City Councilor Christina Jones introduced a series of motions to re-establish the City of Raleigh’s recognition and support of CACs. While we’ve made some progress this past year, we have much to do this year. Including making sure every Raleigh resident has an equal opportunity to be represented by a CAC where they live. CAC volunteers and City staff need to work together to stand back up CACs in parts of town where they disappeared after the 2020 City Council vote to stop supporting CACs. As a CAC Chair and RCAC Chair, Christina Jones reminded the Council every month for 4 years that the City never came up with any new community engagement opportunities to replace CACs.  Almost a year ago Christina led the City Council to reverse that mistake from 2020. Greetings to Friends and Neighbors City of Raleigh Inspections Report - Inspector David Johnson. City of Raleigh Monthly Report and Update - Captain Manson (SW-Southwest). Captain Notch (SE-Southeast), Captain Van Antwerp (DT-Downtown). Our SW area is now part of three Raleigh Police Districts. GoRaleigh Update for Service and Route Changes - City of Raleigh Transportation Staff will go over changes that have been taking place with bus routes and service times. We need to stay engaged with this especially with 1,000 plus apartments coming on line this year. City Council CAC Liaison Councilor Christina Jones - Councilor "Christina" Jones has been very involved in Citizens' Advisory Councils and our "relationship" with the City government. Some changes are underway that should reestablish what is hopefully an even better process of keeping our community informed than ever before. She will share what she sees happening as we look head. Recently the neighborhood Enrichment Team (which was previously part of Housing and Neighborhoods) has merged with the Community Engagement Team.
