Manson will give us a police report for recent crime in the Five Points area. Then we will be joined by Sgt. Madeline Horner and other members of the Raleigh ACORNS (Addressing Crises through Outreach, Referrals, Networking, and Service) team. ACORNS is a proactive unit that works with residents experiencing crises and connects them with appropriate community resources. The team pairs social workers with law enforcement officers to provide support using the most appropriate and least intrusive interventions possible. This discussion is the follow-up to Captain Manson’s safety presentation in January. During that meeting, there was interest in hosting a special follow-up session in February. However, the weather issues in early February created scheduling challenges for me—and likely for others as well. Planning a special meeting later in February would have placed it very close to our regular March meeting, which is relatively early in March. We will have a presentation by City staff from the Housing and Community Development Department about the affordable housing issues facing Raleigh, and the department’s ongoing programs and community needs.
