The Raleigh Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that acts on appeals for variances, special exceptions, and interpretations in the zoning regulations. Its decisions are final but may be subject to court action. The Board consists of eight members: four regular members and two alternate members are appointed to two-year terms by the City Council and must reside within the City limits; one regular member and one alternate are appointed by Wake County Commissioners and must reside within the City's extraterritorial jurisdiction. The Environmental Advisory Board gives the City Council advice on matters related to environmental quality and promotes environmental protection standards and policies to the public.
We Completed the Pigeon House Branch Watershed Study! We are hosting our final public meeting to share results from the Pigeon House Branch watershed study. Stop by to discuss the results with staff. Background A watershed is an area of land where rainwater collects and flows or drains to a larger body of water. That can be a lake, stream, river, or ocean. We are doing a study of the Pigeon House Watershed. The goal is to identify ways to improve the watershed by: Reducing flooding impacts Renewing stormwater pipes and infrastructure that is in poor condition Improving water quality Repairing streambanks

This lecture will explore African Americans in medicine in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Dr. Chad Swanson, DO, MPH, and La’Cura Venable, MA, LPN, will discuss the history of St. Agnes Hospital and Dr. Lawson A. Scruggs and how Black medical practitioners broke barriers in the field of medicine despite racism and Jim Crow laws.
