    You've probably encountered PFAS, known as "forever chemicals," without realizing it. They're in everyday items like food packaging, cookware and clothing. The good news: you can reduce your exposure through simple, everyday choices. The City of Raleigh Environmental Advisory Board is partnering with the Office of Sustainability and Raleigh Water to host a virtual community education event. You'll learn what forever chemicals are and how to lower your risk of exposure at home. You’ll leave the event knowing: What forever chemicals are and where exposure comes from How local and national groups are working to reduce PFAS use and exposure Simple steps you can take today to reduce your exposure and support a more resilient Raleigh

    Help shape the future of accessible public art in Raleigh! Join Raleigh Arts and artist team Wowhaus for a special community engagement event designed with seniors and older adults in mind. Come share your experiences and ideas to help inspire new public art for the GoRaleigh/GoWake Access Transit Facility. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their experiences with transportation, accessibility, and community spaces while helping shape an artwork focused on universal design and inclusion. Your stories, perspectives, and creativity will play an important role in creating a welcoming public art experience that reflects the needs and voices of Raleigh’s senior community. Packapalooza is NC State’s signature all-day block party and street festival, capping off Wolfpack Welcome Week on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026 from 2 to 10 p.m. This vibrant event, held on Hillsborough Street, brings together NC State students, faculty, staff, alums, families, and the local community to kick off the academic year with music, entertainment, family-friendly activities, food, and all things Wolfpack. This year’s festival will feature an eclectic mix of live music and performances across multiple stages, along with a grand finale of fireworks at the Belltower main stage. A cherished tradition attracting over 90,000 attendees, Packapalooza features more than 350 vendor booths and is supported by over 60 sponsoring organizations. Presented by Live It Up! The Chavis-Dix Strollway is envisioned as a walkable, urban cultural trail, designed to safely connect pedestrians between the city’s heritage sites of downtown – the Dorothea Dix Park and the John Chavis Memorial Park.
