Millbrook Road. Learn about the improvements planned for the Mine Creek Greenway on Saturday, June 7,  from 8  to 11 a.m. at the Shelley Lake parking lot located at 1140 W. Millbrook Road. The section of Mine Creek Trail included as part of this project extends from Shelley Lake south to Crabtree Creek Greenway, near North Hills Drive. The proposed improvements include trail resurfacing, improved community access, safety enhancements, and pedestrian bridge replacement.   • Preserving Raleigh’s Black Churches Workshop

    Historic churches face many challenges. These historic spaces are havens of resilience, activism, and cultural identity. They are also physical reminders of that legacy to their communities. This work session will provide more details about the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Preserving Black Churches grant and walk through creating an account for the grant application system. The information we'll be sharing is aimed at church leadership and decision makers. Please plan to bring a laptop to the event to create a grant portal account. One person can register on behalf of all members attending from the same church. We plan to have a special update from Lisa Genschel, of the Dix Park Conservancy who will tell us about a new way to participate in and support Dix Park activities. The official opening of the beautiful new Gipson Play Plaza at Dorothea Dix Park is scheduled this coming weekend (June 6-8).  Carolina Pines Improvement Project - With the contract for construction along the entire length of Carolina Pines Avenue having been awarded we should be seeing a Pre-Construction meeting with our neighborhood in the coming weeks. That meeting for Community with the City Engineering Services and Contractor will be at Carolina Pines Community Center. Date and time TBD. I have been told that we can use the Center's freezer. Therefore, I will, as previously promised, donate ice cream.
