Join your friends at Kiwanis and Active Adults for a family-friendly Halloween celebration! This event is aimed at children and their grandparents, as well as those who are cherished like grandparents. Get ready to experience the holiday spirit in a safe, creative, and inclusive way! We will have several stations throughout the park, including a DIY Candy bucket station, a candy hunt, and a special snack creation. We will also have a sensory-friendly festive film screening. In alignment with the community-led initiatives that created the 2014 Master Plan Design for Walnut Creek Wetland Park, it is the City’s goal to create a garden space designed to provide access to fresh produce and help raise awareness about food deserts, develop food and garden-related programming, and create a model for food production and distribution. This lecture will explore African Americans in medicine in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Dr. Chad Swanson, DO, MPH, and La’Cura Venable, MA, LPN, will discuss the history of St. Agnes Hospital and Dr. Lawson A. Scruggs and how Black medical practitioners broke barriers in the field of medicine despite racism and Jim Crow laws.
