  • Lunch Box Lectures at the City of Raleigh Museum

    Feed your belly and your brain! Bring your lunch to the City of Raleigh Museum and listen to a captivating lecture every third Thursday of the month. This program is in partnership with the City of Raleigh Active Adults Program. Ages: All Cost: Free Commemorating 30 Years: North Carolina Museum of History's American Indian Heritage Celebration Kaya Littleturtle Thursday, Nov. 20 Join us for a free lecture at the City of Raleigh museum with Kaya Littleturtle! Coming from a long line of cultural leaders that guided him on his walk as a traditionalist, Kaya Littleturtle is currently employed at the North Carolina Museum of History as the Community Programs Coordinator. He is the lead singer of the championship drum group WarPaint, who travels all over Indian country. Littleturtle is an active member of his community’s traditional longhouse and belongs to the Snipe Clan, one of the seven traditional longhouse clans. He is an enrolled member of the Tuscarora Indians of Kahtehnuaka Territories.

  • Walking Tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery Highlights Raleigh’s African-American Heritage

    Mount Hope Cemetery 120 Prospect Avenue, Raleigh

    The City of Raleigh’s Historical Resources and Museum Advisory Board invites the public to take part in a guided walking tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery, one of the first municipal cemeteries established for African Americans in North Carolina. Led by Carmen Cauthen—family historian, racial equity advocate, and author of Historic Black Neighborhoods of Raleigh—the tour will share powerful stories of Raleigh’s African-American community and highlight the lives and legacies of those laid to rest at this historic site. When & Where This hour-long tour offers participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Raleigh’s African-American history while honoring the individuals and families who helped shape the city.   • Merry and Bright: An Enchanted Holiday Evening for Grownups

    Pullen Park Community Center 408 Ashe Ave, Raleigh, NC

    Put on your ugliest holiday sweater and sleigh your way to Merry & Bright: An Enchanted Holiday Evening for Grownups at Pullen Park. Stroll around the shimmering lake and take in the dazzling lights. Dance under the stars to live music on the event lawn. Ride the carousel (we’ve got a reindeer!). Take a lap on the holiday train. Play some reindeer games. Make and mail holiday postcards. Visit the North Pole and more! Beer, wine, and food will be available for purchase from the Pullen Café, along with local food trucks and breweries. All proceeds benefit Play It Forward, a Raleigh Parks initiative that helps provide financial assistance to families and individuals so everyone can enjoy recreation opportunities. Tickets go on sale Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. via Ticketmaster Space is limited, and tickets will not be available through any other outlets. This is a 21-and-over event.   • Reindeer Rodeo at Abbotts Creek

    Welcome the holiday season and decorate a gingerbread house inspired by Raleigh’s historic sites! This family-friendly program will take you to two historic locations in Raleigh. Meet at Fred Fletcher Park and take a trolley ride to Latta University Historic Park to explore its history. Then, ride the trolley back to Borden Building at Fletcher Park to build your own gingerbread house inspired by the Latta house.
