Mount Hope Cemetery 120 Prospect Avenue, Raleigh

Fourth Ward Celebration August 15, 2024 You’re invited! Greetings! I am Octavia Rainey, a Raleigh Historian. I would like to invite you to an event series to learn more about the Fourth Ward neighborhood you live in. The history goes back to the Cannon Planation. The Cannon family land was located near the railroad track and sold to freedmen. The Fourth Ward neighborhood was once a thriving African American neighborhood that was destroyed in the mid-1960s by urban renewal. The City of Raleigh has a long-standing history of supporting activities that celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the city’s neighborhoods both past and present. This weeklong celebration is an excellent opportunity to come out and meet your old neighbors, talk about the past, and learn about the future of the Fourth Ward.
