Raleigh Stormwater will host a drop-in style open house at Jaycee Park Community Center to provide updates on the upcoming Glenwood Creston Drainage Project. Background This project is a study of the drainage system that extends from the intersection of Fairview Road and Saint Mary’s Street to Alexander Road, crossing Glenwood Avenue between Alexander Road and The Circle. There have been reports of sinkholes at various locations along the system. Due to the limited space along the drainage corridor, the City is investigating the potential benefits of rehabilitating pipes in place rather than removing and replacing.

Hi Everyone. January 27, 2024 For those of you who enjoy birding and the nature along Mid-Pines Road and at Yates Mill Pond County Park in Raleigh there is some worrying news about a proposed townhome development being built along that road. Currently every property except one on Mid-Pines Road has an R-1 zoning which helps maintain the rural setting adjacent to the NCSU agricultural fields. The one exception is a 13-acre property formerly owned by the Raleigh Police Benevolent Association, Lodge 41. They had it upgraded to R-6 after they purchased it in 1997, a zoning which would allow for higher density development along with office-type buildings. They purportedly had plans to build some sort of recreation center there- but this never happened. A rain garden, or bioretention area, is a planted area that collects and cleans rainwater coming from roads, sidewalks, roofs, driveways and patios. The plants and soil in the garden slow down the water and filter out pollution before it reaches a storm drain or creek. What Are Rain Barrels? Rain barrels are a simple way to capture, store, and use rainwater as it flows from gutters and downspouts onto a property. This helps reduce stormwater pollution to local streams, lakes, and rivers.
