Saturday on South

The City of Raleigh will host an event for community members to come learn about the future of Red Hat Amphitheater, Raleigh Convention Center, and South Street. The cookout will feature bounce houses, live music, and snow cones. Staff from Performing Arts, Transportation, Planning, and Parks departments will be on hand to explain what's planned and answer questions. It's free and open to the public. Date: July 20 Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Location: The City will close a portion of the 200 block of W. South Street from the railroad bridge to McDowell St (no access from Dawson to McDowell).

Phase II of the LGBTQIA+ Historic Context Study Help us unlock the history and discover past and present locations that are important to the LGBTQIA+ community in Raleigh. The Phase II kickoff community meeting will be held in person on Tuesday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Halifax Community Center (1023 Halifax St). Join the City's Historic Preservation staff to meet the new project consultant, receive project updates, and share stories of where LGBTQIA+ people gathered, met, celebrated, loved, and lived. National Night Out

This year National Night Out will be observed on Aug. 6. In observance of National Night Out, Raleigh Police asks you to leave your porch light on from 7 to 10 p.m. The porch light symbolizes alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome. RPD also asks you to get to know your neighbors better. Stay tuned for 2024 National Night Out locations.

Good Morning Raleigh Firefighter Supporter, On behalf of the over 400 members of the Raleigh Firefighters Association that I represent, I'd like to cordially invite you to our next Meet and Confer Chat. This informal community meeting is an opportunity to sit down with firefighters, residents like yourselves, and elected officials to share frank discussion on the state of your fire department and safety in the City of Raleigh. At this event we will be hosting Councilor Megan Patton (District B), Councilor Jonathan Melton (At-large) and Councilor Mary Black (District A). With elections coming up this fall, we are rallying the community to support your firefighters and the best way to do that is to sit down with elected officials and let them know that is a priority to you (the voters). We're just shy of 50 vacancies now (but we haven't added new firefighters since 2014, for a city this size we are 150 firefighters short), and the City Manager's office is heavily stalling our quest for a critical benefit that would help retain firefighters and make fire protection safer--Separation Allowance. The Raleigh Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities will host the Raleigh Department of Transportation to hear important updates about the GoRaleigh Access program such as the return to fares and implementation of the Transit Assistance Pass for GoRaleigh Access.
