Meeting Wednesday February 26th at 7pm It’s time to meet and talk about what’s going on in West Raleigh! We had a detailed discussion with City Planner Keegan McDonald around Transit zoning and the possible Lorimer Spring Affordable Housing Development. This month we will talk with Tim Morgan from Evergreen Construction about the proposed 60 rental apartments that will be age restricted to those 55 years or older. Will these be all affordable rentals? What is the income level that an applicant will need to meet to be eligible to live there? What other sites were considered for this development and why does this site fit the criteria for this level of density?   We will have Captain Jonathan Manson from RPD to discuss crime in this area of Raleigh as well as representatives from the Transportation and Utilities departments to talk about the impact along Garland Drive if this proposed development moves forward. We will also hold time for community updates from our members and welcome you to bring any topic to us for consideration at future meetings. There will be a Zoom meeting for the MCAC leadership team this Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30. We are hoping that the current members of the team and anyone that is interested in a leadership role will attend.  Any neighbors who are interested in the future of the CAC are invited - the goal is to talk about how to get things jump started and spark some leadership interest again. You all are going to love our special guest for this month’s CAC meeting because he’ll be covering a topic we all really care about! Sean Driskill, the manager of Raleigh’s Vision Zero program will be presenting at our meeting next Monday. For those of you who are confused by the program name as I originally was, Vision Zero refers to the goal of reducing traffic fatalities so much that we end up having zero fatalities. A lofty goal, but they’re starting out just trying to reduce injuries and fatalities along our transportation network. 🚙 Please come to our meeting Monday the 24th at 7 pm at the Lion’s Park Community Center to learn more about how the City of Raleigh is working to achieve this goal and to share your thoughts. Hi CAC neighbors, We have an agenda update for our Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting this coming Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 PM. We will meet on Zoom, the link is below. Our meeting will feature a presentation on AI (Artificial Intelligence). This will be a good opportunity to learn more about AI and how you can use it. Agenda • Police report. • Update from Hillsborough-Street Community Service Corporation. • Presentation about AI: understanding the basics and “how-tos” plus an overview on AI developments and how they impact us. • Update on rezoning cases in our CAC. The applicant for rezoning case Z-54-22, which was voted down by City Council two years ago, is restarting the process to bring this case back before City Council. Our District D City Councilor led the effort to deny this rezoning request two years ago. Now the applicant is coming forward with some money for the future Smokey Hollow city park and some money for the City’s affordable housing fund. These incentives don’t change the request for 30 stories where 12 stories is already approved for this Downtown Transition area. If approved […]
