    Artifacts: Storytelling Through Material Forms May 3 - July 26, 2026 Join us for a closing reception for Artifacts: Storytelling Through Material Forms on Saturday, July 25 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. Check out the artwork, meet the artists, and enjoy an evening of community at Pullen Arts Center Artifacts: Storytelling Through Material Forms is a mixed media exhibition showcasing works by Shakeeka Brooks, Chris-Annia Dobson, and Michelle Wilkie which explore identity, heritage and culture through various mediums.   • New Artist Registry Information Session

    Virtual Meeting

    Raleigh Arts is creating an Emerging Public Artist Registry and wants your feedback! This fall, the public arts team will launch a new way for local artists to be considered for public art projects under $30,000. Our Emerging Public Artist Registry will be open to NC-based artists working as muralists, mosaicists, sculptors, photographers, illustrators, and digital artists/designers. We’re working to develop an opportunity tailored to everyone from established studio artists looking for ways to break into public art to working public artists seeking projects that can help them reach the next level. We want to make sure that what we are building will work for artists! Please join us for a virtual information session on Friday, Sept. 4, at noon. Raleigh Arts will share our vision for the registry and listen to artist feedback. The meeting will be recorded for those who would like to participate but cannot attend.   • Roberts Park Volunteer Mural Painting

    Join artists Lamar Whidbee and Delayna Robbins on Sept. 16, to help paint a large-scale mural at Roberts Park Community Center. Volunteers should register by Sept. 14. Learn more about volunteering and sign up to participate This project is a partnership between Raleigh Arts and the City of Raleigh and Southeast Raleigh Promise, Habitat For Humanity, Partners for Environmental Justice, and Wells Fargo as part of the 5th Annual Home Preservation and Parks Improvement Volunteer Day of Service. About the Artists Lamar Whidbee is an interdisciplinary artist and licensed clinical mental health counselor associate whose practice merges visual art with therapeutic inquiry. His work explores memory, fatherhood, Black identity, and mental health. Lamar’s early work involved teaching art alongside prison psychologists on death row and using practices such as life mapping to help individuals visually reconstruct their personal narratives—using art as a tool for accountability, reflection, and healing. Learn more about Lamar Delayna Robbins is a painter, illustrator, and creative mentor. Known online as "A Colorful Chaos," she creates vibrant, Afro-Surrealist artwork that explores themes of healing, identity, ancestry, and divine love.   • Public Sculpture Dedication

    Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve Education Center 5229 Awls Haven Drive, Raleigh

    Experience Rhythms and Whispers, a new public artwork by Nature Preserves Artist-in-Residence, Scott Hazard (@hazardscott), now on view at Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve! Made of multiple layered panels of weathered steel, Rhythms and Whispers frames a view of the evolving Piedmont prairie landscape found at the preserve, encouraging visitors to pause and reflect on their surroundings. The sculpture includes text about the special landscape crafted by poets Chris Tonelli, Lauren Hunter, and Suzanne Beaumont, and conservationist, author, and historian David Rahahę·tih Webb. Meet the artist and collaborators on Thursday, Sept. 24, and learn more about the inspiration behind the work at a dedication event from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. An optional short interpretive talk and walk through the meadow where the sculpture is located will be led by Nature Preserve Manager Bryan England at 5 p.m. This project is presented by Raleigh Arts, with additional funding provided by South Arts.     Syllabary Aug. 2 - Oct. 25, 2026 Join us for a closing reception for Syllabary on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. Check out the artwork, meet the artist, and enjoy an afternoon of community at Pullen Arts Center Featuring the artwork of interdisciplinary Durham-based artist Jason Lord, Syllabary is an evolving body of work emerging from questions I have returned to for years about the relationship between parts and wholes, the ways rules generate possibility rather than merely constrain it, the strange power of language to gather the world into names while inevitably leaving something outside them, and the different kinds of thinking that become possible through making. These questions are not illustrated by the work so much as discovered through the process of making it, emerging through assembling and disassembling, repeating and revising, working within self-imposed constraints, and allowing materials, forms, and images to migrate across different contexts.
