Solid Waste Services 2026 Shred + Dead Event

Unload your dearly departed electronic waste and let your old confidential documents shred in peace this spooky season!   Join Solid Waste Services for the City of Raleigh’s 2026 Shred + Dead event! From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 24 at the Wilders Grove Solid Waste Services Facility, staff will be on hand to help residents dispose of specialty waste items.  Please use the main entrance for visitors and employees by turning right at the intersection of Corporation Parkway and Commerce Park Drive and follow the signage. A drive-thru system will be implemented to help ensure a smooth drop-off experience for residents. Participants are urged to drive slowly through the stations as there will be foot traffic and staff directing attendees. Please note the following items will NOT be accepted: Washers Dryers Ovens Refrigerators Pianos E-Waste disposal Keep your dead and unused small household appliances out of the landfill by dropping them off. Examples include air fryers, hair dryers, lamps, TVs, vacuums, DVD players, radios, toasters, and blenders. Think anything with a cord! Celebrate Raleigh Arbor Day

Carolina Pines Community Center 2305 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh

The City of Raleigh and We Plant It Forward are teaming up for the 2026 Raleigh Arbor Day Celebration on Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Carolina Pines Park. The event invites community members to take part in a hands-on day of service focused on strengthening Raleigh’s urban tree canopy through volunteer activities and guided environmental stewardship. The celebration will kick off with a ceremonial tree planting and an Arbor Day proclamation, followed by rotating stations where volunteers can learn practical tree-care techniques and support local ecosystems. At the end of the event, participants will receive a free tree to plant at home, to help contribute to Raleigh's community goal of planting 24,000 trees by 2032 through the Leaf Out initiative. American Mahjong Tournament

Stream Cleanup at Worthdale Park!

Join Stormwater staff for a pop-up stream cleanup! Help us clean up a section of Walnut Creek on Saturday October 24th. We'll meet at Worthdale Park Community Center (not the softball fields). Please come ready to get a little wet and muddy; long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Space is limited to 35 volunteers. When: Saturday, October 24, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM Where: Worthdale Park (1001 Cooper Road, Raleigh 27610) What You Need To Know All minor children must be accompanied by an adult. We'll provide all supplies! Please just come with closed-toed shoes/boots and clothes that can get a little wet and muddy. Each volunteer must individually register. Registration for the stream cleanup is required.

Syllabary Aug. 2 - Oct. 25, 2026 Join us for a closing reception for Syllabary on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. Check out the artwork, meet the artist, and enjoy an afternoon of community at Pullen Arts Center Featuring the artwork of interdisciplinary Durham-based artist Jason Lord, Syllabary is an evolving body of work emerging from questions I have returned to for years about the relationship between parts and wholes, the ways rules generate possibility rather than merely constrain it, the strange power of language to gather the world into names while inevitably leaving something outside them, and the different kinds of thinking that become possible through making. These questions are not illustrated by the work so much as discovered through the process of making it, emerging through assembling and disassembling, repeating and revising, working within self-imposed constraints, and allowing materials, forms, and images to migrate across different contexts.
