RHDC Research Committee
Public Meeting – August 5, 2026
The Research Committee of the Raleigh Historic Development Commission will conduct a public meeting on Wednesday, August 5 at 8:30 a.m. in conference room 809 of One Exchange Plaza, Raleigh, NC 27601.
For questions about the meeting, please contact historicpreservation@raleighnc.gov
A local historian has requested an opportunity to present their research and findings on the George W. Norwood Mill to the RHDC. The mill is located on Marsh Creek near the Raleigh Racquet Club. George Washington Norwood is a descendant of Isaac Hunter and built the grist mill in the 1870s.
One of the items listed on the RHDC’s 2026 Work Plan is to plan and host a celebration for the Biltmore Hills neighborhood when it is placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Biltmore Hills National Register nomination is scheduled to be reviewed at the National Register Advisory Committee in October. Assuming a positive review, National Register designation should be final in Spring 2027. Staff encourages the Committee to begin planning the event along with members of the community.
The Research Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. in Conference Room 809, One Exchange Plaza building. Upcoming meeting agendas for the RHDC Research Committee can be found on our City Council, Boards and Commissions Agendas and Minutes page.
