Gospel Extravaganza – The Five Black Churches of The Fourth Ward – Black Neighborhood Expo

Fletcher Hall 2 E. South Street, Raleigh

Fourth Ward Celebration August 15, 2024 You’re invited! Greetings! I am Octavia Rainey, a Raleigh Historian. I would like to invite you to an event series to learn more about the Fourth Ward neighborhood you live in. The history goes back to the Cannon Planation. The Cannon family land was located near the railroad track and sold to freedmen. The Fourth Ward neighborhood was once a thriving African American neighborhood that was destroyed in the mid-1960s by urban renewal. The Fourth Ward is the name of our neighborhood, and we must maintain the name of our neighborhood. The City of Raleigh has a long-standing history of supporting activities that celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the city’s neighborhoods both past and present. This weeklong celebration is an excellent opportunity to come out and meet your old neighbors, talk about the past, and learn about the future of the Fourth Ward. Please join me at any or all of the six Fourth Ward Celebration events listed below. I’m looking forward to seeing you there. August 26 – September 1 Events Monday, August 26, 6p.m. – 7p.m.: A Celebration of Mount Hope Cemetery Fourth Ward, Mount Hope Cemetery, 120 Prospect […]
