  • The Endless Grind – An Archive Photo Exhibit of Raleigh’s Skate History

    In partnership with the City of Raleigh Museum and as part of Downtown Raleigh Alliance’s First Friday events for May, we’re hosting a one-night preview of select items from the Archive’s collection, ahead of a bigger project on Raleigh’s skate history. Starting at 7 p.m.,  we’ll hear the stories behind some of the new and old photos from photographers Pete Thompson, Chris Facey, and Chris Seward.  Due to limited space, this will be a free but ticketed event.   • Street Requiem with the North Carolina Master Chorale

    Join us at Moore Square for a free performance of Street Requiem with the North Carolina Master Chorale. The Chorale and Youth Choir combine forces to sing "Street Requiem", a work written by Australian composer Kathleen McGuire in collaboration with Andy Payne and Jonathon Welch, in order to bring attention to those who suffer from housing insecurity. The composers set English, African, and Persian texts in multiple musical styles, including contemporary, gospel, and indigenous. This moving and uplifting work invites both performers and listeners to contemplate and address this significant social issue together as a community.   • Raleigh Historic Bike Ride with RHDC & BPAC

    Saturday, May 3 (Rain Date if needed: May 10) Nash Square Park 10 a.m. to noon May is Preservation Month and Bike Month! Hop on your bike for a ride into history. The 2ndannual Raleigh Historic Bike Ride will feature a 4-mile route including stops at six sites identified in our recently completed LGBTQIA+ Historic Context Study! RHDC volunteers at each site will share a brief history of the property. The stops include: Nash Square Park, NW corner (200 S McDowell St) Sir Walter Raleigh Hotel (400 Fayetteville St) Cameron Court Apartments (905 Hillsborough St) Women’s Culture Collective Coffeehouse (119 Hawthorne Rd) Pullen Memorial Baptist Church (1805 Hillsborough St) Legends Nightclub (330 W Hargett St) This ride is being held by the Raleigh Historic Development Commission (RHDC), in partnership with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) and Raleigh Sister Cities. Come Prepared: The ride will begin and end at the northwest corner of Nash Square Park. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets. Free Cardinal Share e-bikes will also be available.     Join us to celebrate students creativity and storytelling at this year's Capture It Stormwater Art and Video Gallery at the Pullen Park Arts Center. Students in grades 8-12 created compelling artwork and videos related to water quality and how pollution impacts our Raleigh lakes and streams. We are excited to share their important work with the city! The exhibition will be up from May 1 - 31 with a gallery opening celebration on Saturday, May 3 from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM.
