Join public artist Austen Camille and members of the Eastgate Community Garden for this two-part gardening and poetry event! Before harvesting fall vegetables together, participants will join artist and writer Austen Camille to create a series of short poems about the connections between tending to plants and the idea of ‘home’. We will spend time working in each raised bed, learning about what is being grown and writing down our observations. Never written poetry before? That’s just fine! Austen Camille will guide you through poetry prompts, and the focus will be on using our senses to notice the plants closely. Prompts will be available in both English and Spanish! At the end of the event, each participant will have the opportunity to have their poetry included in signage describing the community garden raised beds and in a future artwork located at River Cane Wetland Park! They will also have freshly harvested produce to bring home and share! Register for the workshop. Learn more about Public Art at River Cane Wetland Park.
