HOST matches college students who need short-term housing with hosts who provide a safe, private, affirming space in their home. • YMCA program for Community Service for Teens, Mikayla Escamilla will explain how this program works. • Report on the new developing relationship between CACs and the City of Raleigh.     New Applicant Workshop for 2026-2027 Raleigh Arts Commission Grants Interested in learning more about the City of Raleigh Arts Commission’s grant program and whether your nonprofit organization is eligible to apply for this funding? Two one-hour New Applicant Grant Workshops will be offered this November and are open to anyone interested in learning more about the Raleigh Arts Commission’s grant program. The workshops are free, but pre-registration is required. This in-person session is on Nov. 1, but a virtual session will be held Nov. 5. The New Applicant Grant Workshop introduces potential applicants to the Raleigh Arts Commission’s grant program and provides in-depth information about eligibility requirements, the application process, and what happens once a grant has been awarded. Note that Raleigh nonprofits that have never received Arts Commission grant funding before and plan to apply for a 2026-2027 grant are required to attend one of the two New Applicant Grant Workshop sessions scheduled.   • River Cane Wetland Park Invasive Plant Removal and Poetry Workshop

    River Cane Wetland Park 4700 Kyle Dr., Raleigh, NC

    In this two-part event at River Cane Wetland Park, volunteers will help remove invasive, nonnative plant species while exploring what makes a habitat a home through poetry. From 12 noon to 1 p.m., join public artist Austen Camille for a short workshop to learn about the park as a shared home for many species and begin crafting a long-form poem inspired by the landscape. After the workshop, volunteers will continue invasive plant removal alongside Raleigh Parks staff, who will share insights about the species being removed and the native plants we’re making space for. Throughout the event, participants can pause to reflect and create short poems that connect the plants they’re working with to ideas of home. By the end, everyone will have a collection of poems to share, with the chance for their words to be featured in future artwork at River Cane Wetland Park! Register for the workshop.
