Coming from a long line of cultural leaders that guided him on his walk as a traditionalist, Kaya Littleturtle is currently employed at the North Carolina Museum of History as the Community Programs Coordinator. He is the lead singer of the championship drum group WarPaint, who travels all over Indian country. Littleturtle is an active member of his community’s traditional longhouse and belongs to the Snipe Clan, one of the seven traditional longhouse clans. He is an enrolled member of the Tuscarora Indians of Kahtehnuaka Territories.

  • Walking Tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery Highlights Raleigh’s African-American Heritage

    The City of Raleigh’s Historical Resources and Museum Advisory Board invites the public to take part in a guided walking tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery, one of the first municipal cemeteries established for African Americans in North Carolina. Led by Carmen Cauthen—family historian, racial equity advocate, and author of Historic Black Neighborhoods of Raleigh—the tour will share powerful stories of Raleigh’s African-American community and highlight the lives and legacies of those laid to rest at this historic site. When & Where This hour-long tour offers participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Raleigh’s African-American history while honoring the individuals and families who helped shape the city. Stroll around the shimmering lake and take in the dazzling lights. Dance under the stars to live music on the event lawn. Ride the carousel (we’ve got a reindeer!). Take a lap on the holiday train. Play some reindeer games. Make and mail holiday postcards. Visit the North Pole and more! Meet at Fred Fletcher Park and take a trolley ride to Latta University Historic Park to explore its history. Then, ride the trolley back to Borden Building at Fletcher Park to build your own gingerbread house inspired by the Latta house.
