Join Raleigh Stormwater staff to learn about rain gardens, rain barrels, and how you can use them on your property! Registration link coming soon. This event is in coordination with Regional Creek Week 2024. Learn how you can protect streams, creeks, and rivers in Raleigh! What Are Rain Gardens? A rain garden, or bioretention area, is a planted area that collects and cleans rainwater coming from roads, sidewalks, roofs, driveways and patios. The plants and soil in the garden slow down the water and filter out pollution before it reaches a storm drain or creek. What Are Rain Barrels? Rain barrels are a simple way to capture, store, and use rainwater as it flows from gutters and downspouts onto a property. This helps reduce stormwater pollution to local streams, lakes, and rivers. You can use the water for gardening and even to wash your car or walkway/driveway! Celebrate Regional Creek Week

Stream Cleanup Details Where: Southgate Park, 1801 Proctor Street, Raleigh 27610 (Meet at the picnic shelter) Please wear outdoor attire and closed-toe shoes. It's recommended to dress in clothes that can get muddy, long pants, and boots.

The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department is proud to host a FREE shredding and household electronic disposal event as part of our city's Earth Day celebration. This eco-friendly extravaganza will take place at the beautiful Dorothea Dix Park in the Adams Lot on Friday, April 19, with shredders revving up from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It's time to clear out those confidential documents and electronic clutter in the most environmentally responsible way possible! Join us for a volunteer Stream Monitoring Workshop! Upcoming Workshop We host stream monitoring workshops throughout the year where you learn how to monitor stream health and water quality in Raleigh. Space is usually limited to 15 participants. Workshop Details When: Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Where: Walnut Creek Wetland Park (950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC 27610) Register for the upcoming stream monitoring workshop! The workshop will cover basic stream ecology and includes both classroom and (weather permitting) in-stream activities. The workshop will cover stormwater basics, an introduction to water quality, and practice collecting water quality and biological samples in the stream. The workshop is a prerequisite for participation in Raleigh's volunteer stream monitoring program, but is open to all. Please come with closed-toed shoes and long pants. RELATED LINKS
