Good Morning Raleigh Firefighter Supporter, On behalf of the over 400 members of the Raleigh Firefighters Association that I represent, I'd like to cordially invite you to our next Meet and Confer Chat. This informal community meeting is an opportunity to sit down with firefighters, residents like yourselves, and elected officials to share frank discussion on the state of your fire department and safety in the City of Raleigh. At this event we will be hosting Councilor Megan Patton (District B), Councilor Jonathan Melton (At-large) and Councilor Mary Black (District A). With elections coming up this fall, we are rallying the community to support your firefighters and the best way to do that is to sit down with elected officials and let them know that is a priority to you (the voters). We're just shy of 50 vacancies now (but we haven't added new firefighters since 2014, for a city this size we are 150 firefighters short), and the City Manager's office is heavily stalling our quest for a critical benefit that would help retain firefighters and make fire protection safer--Separation Allowance. We'll go into more detail at the meeting, but we need your help Raleigh. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors and let's […] |

Fourth Ward Celebration August 15, 2024 You’re invited! Greetings! I am Octavia Rainey, a Raleigh Historian. I would like to invite you to an event series to learn more about the Fourth Ward neighborhood you live in. The history goes back to the Cannon Planation. The Cannon family land was located near the railroad track and sold to freedmen. The Fourth Ward neighborhood was once a thriving African American neighborhood that was destroyed in the mid-1960s by urban renewal. The Fourth Ward is the name of our neighborhood, and we must maintain the name of our neighborhood. The City of Raleigh has a long-standing history of supporting activities that celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the city’s neighborhoods both past and present. This weeklong celebration is an excellent opportunity to come out and meet your old neighbors, talk about the past, and learn about the future of the Fourth Ward. Please join me at any or all of the six Fourth Ward Celebration events listed below. I’m looking forward to seeing you there. Hi CAC neighbors, A week from today our Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting will be on Tuesday, August 27th at 7:00 PM. We will meet on Zoom and the link is at the bottom of this email. Current Agenda: • Police report • Update from the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation. • Update on rezoning case Z-83-22 (property includes where the Arby’s was on Hillsborough Street). • City Councilors Christina Jones and Jane Harrison will tell us what the City of Raleigh has been doing since the February 2024 vote to re-establish City support and official recognition of the RCAC.
