AFFORDABLE HOUSING

BUDGET PRIORITIES
1. What are your top three spending priorities for Raleigh?
- Implement and support CACs
- Affordable housing
- Commuter rail
- Affordability through housing and transit planning and implementation that focuses on residents relying on public transportation (students, low-income families) and their costs falling within the budgets of average residents living in those areas. Ensuring that the people of Raleigh can rely on consistent public transportation will foster equitable transit for all within our city.
- Utilize ARPA funding on infrastructure. There are only two infrastructure projects that have been approved are simply renovations to the convention center and City Plaza. That money can be allotted for more than just renovations to buildings. It was also allotted to help fix infrastructure such as water and sewer.
- Expand funding for transit services. It is clear that our transit service is floundering- a $35 million federal expansion is great, but being able to use transit that is consistently on time and more available to all should be a priority for the city of Raleigh.
2. Name your top three suggestions for cutting the city's spending.
- Cosmetic facelifts for downtown
- Capital equipment
- Between a growth factor of 3.4%, and a total annual budget of $554 million in 2023, the City of Raleigh should not look towards cutting spending, but rather focus on expedient and efficient ways of utilizing our tax dollars to manage and bolster growth. Our city government must find ways to establish a platform for Raleigh to become a major economic center of the Southeast, while creating an environment for all citizens, regardless of income, to thrive.
