Friends and neighbors,SW Community Meeting at the Carolina Pines Community Center (2305 Lake Wheeler Rd.). We will meet in person, without streaming, next Monday evening, September 8th, at 7:00 pm. There will be reports from Raleigh Police Officers and City Inspections. We plan to have a special update from Lisa Genschel with the Dix Park Conservancy about a program to join in supporting Dorothea Dix Park Conservancy. Jeff Murison of The Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation (Live it Up) will update us on programs for their included three mile long area and programs that focus on community success. We need your help! - I have been told that we can use the Center's freezer. Therefore, I will, as previously promised, donate ice cream. Please come and help with the ice cream. Since I have no idea as to how many will attend I don't need to be left with melting cartons and no freezer space. Please bring help. Kids welcome. This meeting is intended to be focused on sharing interests, and concerns and just acquainting ourselves with our neighbors. Please join this gathering if you can. Hopefully, we will have a good turnout. I plan to schedule in-person meetings four times […] |

Special Meeting of West Raleigh CAC We are holding a special in person meeting on Tuesday September 16th at 1:00pmto meet with a reporter from the News and Observer. Larry King who lives next to the affordable housing development called Lorimer Springs that is to be built this year will also be in attendance. This is an in person meeting only, there will be no zoom link or recordings made of the meeting. There will be a photographer from the N&O. The density allowed along the Frequent Transit Area (FTA) or Transit Overlay District (TOD) is of concern to Larry and other neighbors. The West Raleigh CAC is offering the space for concerned residents to meet. This is in addition to the two meetings that were held earlier this year to discuss this issue. This is an open meeting and will last one hour. At this time, there is no indication that Lorimer Springs will modify it’s proposed density of 60 units in a three story building. A site plan has been filed with the City that meets the zoning conditions of the FTA. Time: Tuesday September 16th at 1:00pm Location: Powell Drive Park Neighborhood Center 740 Powell Drive |

Hi CAC neighbors, We have our next Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:00 PM. The Zoom link is at the bottom of this email. INFORMATION UPDATES: One of our agenda items is a presentation about a possible text change regarding outdoor advertising and digital signage in Raleigh. At the Tuesday, September 2nd City Council meeting this topic was discussed. Click here for the minutes and a video of the digital signage discussion. While looking at the minutes you can click on the video, which should start at the beginning of this particular Council discussion. As I understand the text change, they are not asking for an increase in the number of billboards in Raleigh. They are seeking the ability to make many of them digital signs, and the ability to relocate signs to other locations. Also an increase in size and height of signs. At the bottom of this email are maps of current locations and areas for future relocations. Attached is a PDF of the Digital Billboards presentation made to the Safe, Vibrant & Healthy Community Committee on August 26. We also have major changes to how Raleigh conducts City Council elections, including the introduction of a primary for the 2026 election. This will all be explained […] |
