Please Sign the Petition: Ask Council to Appoint Kay Crowder to Fill the District D Vacancy

Kay has the Experience, Wisdom and Integrity Raleigh Needs Now

Dear Friends,

I want to make you aware that Raleigh City Councilor Saige Martin has resigned from the City Council. (Click here for news report)  His seat is now vacant and a replacement will be appointed by Mayor Baldwin and the remaining six City Councilors. Their deliberations begin Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 4:00 PM. Here is a city link to the Special Meeting Agenda: http://go.boarddocs.com/nc/raleigh/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=BQXRCZ6D6909

There are three things I want you to know.

  1. Time is of the essence because a decision could be made on Tuesday, June 30. We want to be sure the Mayor and Council do the right thing by appointing the most qualified, experienced person possible – KAY CROWDER.  To be sure that the Mayor and Council hear our voices, I urge you to sign the petition to appoint Kay Crowder to represent District D on the Raleigh City Council. You do not need to be a resident of District D to sign. Every signature counts!  Click here to sign the petition.
  1. Experience matters. Livable Raleigh has been aggressively monitoring the City Council and Committee meetings and we have heard and seen first-hand how the lack of experience is hurting YOU and our city. This is no time for anyone to learn-on-the job and the issues are too important to hand off to anyone who is not a veteran of city service.  Raleigh is facing three of the worst crises in our history – our biggest economic challenge in 2020/2021, the most severe public health crisis imaginable NOW and deliverables that are long overdue to the African American community. We cannot accept anything less than an experienced and proven representative who has earned the votes and trust of the residents of District D. I urge you to sign the petition to appoint Kay Crowder to represent District D on the Raleigh City Council. You do not need to be a resident of District D to sign. Every signature counts! Click here to sign the petition.
  1. Kay Crowder wants to serve the City of Raleigh. She has served two terms as a Council member and has demonstrated that she has common-sense values and knows how this city works inside and out. She can begin day-one and be a contributing resource to help the agenda of this city and to offer mentoring to those who need it. I urge you to sign the petition to appoint Kay Crowder to represent District D on the Raleigh City Council. You do not need to be a resident of District D to sign. Every signature counts! Click here to sign the petition.

To help you further, I have included the Petition statement below.

On behalf of the Steering Committee of Livable Raleigh, I want to thank you for your action today to sign the petition to appoint Kay Crowder.

Best regards,

Susan Maruyama

Chair, Livable Raleigh

The Petition States the following:

We believe Kay Crowder is the best choice and the only fair choice to fill the vacancy on Raleigh City Council District D. Kay is a proven leader who can step into the job on day one and be effective. She is the only person who can. District D deserves no less.

Kay is the only possible appointee who has been elected to this position by the voters, having twice earned their trust after positive campaigns and because of her work in office. She ran a strong race in 2019 and could have called for a runoff but did not. We now know that she was replaced by an unscrupulous candidate who lied repeatedly about her record and his own qualifications.

We urge Mayor Baldwin and the City Council to appoint Kay and restore to District D the outstanding representation for which our community previously was known.
