SUMMARY:Ciba Punch
DESCRIPTION:his workshop is part of a SEEK Raleigh public art project\, Ciba Punch 女拳手打糍粑. \nCiba Punch 女拳手打糍粑 is a participatory performance led by the Chinese Artists and Organizers Collective (CAO). Rooted in an ethic of care\, the project invites community members to join in the process of transforming steamed sticky rice into ciba (糍粑 – traditional Chinese rice cakes often enjoyed with brown sugar or other toppings) by punching the rice. \nIn bringing the making of Ciba into public space\, the artists aim to honor and reframe the traditionally feminized labor of cooking\, while highlighting food as a living archive for community connection\, cultural exchange\, and movement building. Participants are invited to channel emotions such as rage\, grief\, and love into the shared labor of food-making. \nDuring the performance\, “Spiritual Figures” will move through the space\, offering quiet guidance through humming and breathwork\, embodying the presence of queer/feminist ancestors and future selves. \nAudience Participation\nAll are welcome to participate in the Ciba Punch. Sanitation gloves will be provided; however\, the food produced during the performance will not be prepared under regulated food safety conditions. Consumption of the rice cakes will be at the participants’ own risk. \nEvent Details\nDate: Sunday\, Sept. 28\nTime: 3 – 5 p.m.\nLocation: Dorothea Dix Park – grassy field next to Chapel – 1030 Richardson Dr\, Raleigh\, NC 27603 \nWhile free to attend\, space is limited. Registration is required. \nLearn more about this project.

SUMMARY:Art On The Greenway Ride Series - Ride #2
DESCRIPTION:Join Oaks and Spokes and Raleigh Arts for three fun and social group rides to help shape the future of public art on Raleigh’s greenway system. These rides are part of an ongoing effort to identify where and what kinds of art could be added to make our greenways more vibrant\, welcoming\, and reflective of our community. \nAlong the way\, we will visit or discuss several potential locations listed in the City of Raleigh Greenway Master Plan as priority sites for public art. These include sections of the Reedy Creek\, Crabtree Creek\, Little Rock\, and Walnut Creek Trails. At each location\, you can share your ideas about what types of public art you would like to see\, such as tunnel murals\, sculptures\, wayfinding features\, decorative fencing\, infrastructure murals\, or pathway art. \nYou do not have to pre-register to participate. Just arrive at the starting location by the posted start time for each ride. \nThe pilot list of locations includes areas like the North Carolina Museum of Art Blue Loop to Blue Ridge Road\, Industrial Drive to Atlantic Avenue\, and the Little Rock Trail between Davie and Cabarrus Streets\, among others. These sites were chosen for their visibility\, community connections\, and potential to create unique experiences along the trail. \nWhether you ride the greenway daily or visit it occasionally\, this is a chance to explore it in a new way\, imagine how art could enhance the space\, and contribute to decisions that will help shape the greenway’s future. \nWater and snacks will be provided\, but participants should come prepared with their own water\, sunscreen\, and clothing suited to the weather. Please bring a safe and working bike\, scooter\, Onewheel\, or other personal electric vehicle if you plan to ride. \n\n \nRide Information\nSaturday\, September 27th at 10am\n16 miles – North Carolina Museum of Art to Shelley Lake and back. \nView route information \nOur second ride will be a little longer starting at the North Carolina Museum of Art. From there\, we will ride together north toward Shelley Lake\, making a couple of stops along the way to imagine where and how public art could be added to this section of the greenway. The pace will be fun and social. Expect to maintain an average of 10 mph.
