DESCRIPTION:We Completed the Watershed Study!\nWe are hosting our final public meeting for the Rocky Branch Watershed Study. In this meeting\, we will share our results and recommended stormwater improvement projects that will reduce flooding\, improve water quality\, and protect the community. \n\n \nBackground\nA watershed is an area of land where rainwater collects and flows or drains to a larger body of water. That can be a lake\, stream\, river\, or ocean. We completed a study of the Rocky Branch Watershed and the adjacent portion of the Walnut Creek Watershed located in southern downtown Raleigh.  The goal is to identify ways to improve the watershed by: \n\nReducing flooding impacts\nRenewing stormwater pipes and infrastructure that is in poor condition\nImproving water quality\nRepairing streambanks\n\nLearn more about Rocky Branch Watershed Study!

All the necessary supplies will be provided (work gloves\, trash grabbers\, safety vests\, and trash bags). Please dress for outdoor fun and plan on getting a little wet and muddy. \nWhat You Need To Know\n\nVolunteers must be at least 10 years old; all volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.\nWe’ll provide all supplies! Please just come with closed-toed shoes/boots and clothes that can get a little wet and muddy.\nEach volunteer must individually register. Registration for the stream cleanup is required.

DESCRIPTION:2025 Big Sweep at Lake Johnson \nSign up and share with the Friends of Lake Johnson!  https://raleighnc.gov/parks-volunteer .\n\n\n\nDescription: \n\nThe annual Lake Johnson Park NC Big Sweep event invites participants to walk or paddle about the park to pick up trash. \n\nCheck-In: Volunteers will check-In with Lake Johnson staff at 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center.\nCleanup: Once checked in\, volunteers can head to the lakefront and begin cleaning.\nPost-Cleanup: As a thank you for volunteering\, the Friends of Lake Johnson Association will be providing food and beverages until 1 p.m. We will also be taking a group photo to show off your hard work!\n\nDuties and Impact: \nVolunteers will use pickup sticks\, gloves\, and trash bags to collect and dispose of litter within the lake and along the shore. Improperly discarded litter is a serious environmental hazard. It pollutes the water we use and depend on\, it has the potential to cause injury to wildlife\, and it is simply an eyesore. By removing litter\, we can help provide a healthier environment for wildlife and citizens to enjoy. \n  \nWork Environment: \nWe will be working outside in the elements. There is the possibility for uneven ground. There will be a restroom on site. \n  \nRequirements: \n\nAges 12+. Those under 18 must have a parent/guardian present\nSigned digital Terms and Conditions or a paper release form. Those under 18 will need a parent/guardian signature\nOnly those ages 16+ may operate a paddle craft without an adult\nWear comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing\nShore cleanup volunteers should wear close-toed sneakers or hiking boots\nBring your own filled water bottle and begin hydrating the day before\n\nOther Instructions: \n\nVolunteers are welcome to bring their own paddle craft or may borrow one.
