Then we’ll have a group discussion about the future of Raleigh’s CACs. \nAs you know\, our H-W CAC boundary includes parts of City Council Districts D and E. So I’m very excited that we’ll get to hear from our City Council representatives about what the City of Raleigh has been doing since the February 2024 vote to re-establish City support and official recognition of the RCAC. It will also be very productive and useful for our CAC residents to hear about our Councilors’ vision for the future of CACs\, and for our City Councilors to hear from you about what you would like to see happen in the future. \nThe RCAC Board is currently asking each CAC Board to complete a survey asking for opinions and visions for the future of Raleigh’s Citizen Advisory Councils. SUMMARY:Southwest Community Engagement Meeting
DESCRIPTION:After four and a half years\, we have approval for access to the Carolina Pines Community Center (2305 Lake Wheeler Rd.) \nWe will meet in person\, without streaming\, this coming Monday evening\, September 9th\, at 7:00 pm. There will be reports from Raleigh Police Officers and City Inspections followed by social time. Hopefully\, we can also return to having a program update about Carolina Pines Park’s activities. \nI have been told that we can also use the Center’s freezer. Therefore\, I will\, as previously promised\, donate some ice cream. Please come and help with the ice cream. Since I have no idea as to how many will attend I don’t need to be left with melting cartons and no freezer space. \nThis meeting is intended to be focused on sharing interests\, and concerns and just reacquainting ourselves with our neighbors. Several of our City Councilors have indicated they plan to attend. Please join this gathering if you can. Hopefully\, we will have a good turnout. So much of the World has changed over the last few years. If this goes well\, I plan to schedule in-person meetings four times a year. (next one in December) The others will continue to use Zoom\, \nChair set-up in our traditional room will start at about 6:45 pm. \nOur next meeting in October will resume the Zoom/Streaming format. SUMMARY:Crabtree West Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Crabtree Creek Trail’s Extension \n“Our greenways are a signature amenity that differentiates Raleigh from other places\,” says Beverley Clark\, chair of the city’s parks recreation and greenway advisory board and founder of the Friends of Raleigh Greenways (FRoG). On Sept. 14\, FRoG is celebrating the completion of the final extension of the Crabtree Creek Trail\, which closes the gap between Umstead Park and the Neuse River. “It has spectacular elevated switchbacks and a beautiful suspension bridge\,” says Clark. Join FRoG for a 5K race or 10-mile bike ride\, or watch the little ones parade across the new bridge. Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner will host the event\, which also includes a DJ and food trucks. Proceeds will go toward public art installations along the greenway. “We are eager for more citizens to understand the importance of our greenways\,” says Clark. “They’re essentially Raleigh’s largest park\, connecting people and places from one end of the city to the other.” Sept. 14 | 8:30 a.m.; $20 to race; free to attend festival; parking lot of Grubb Ventures\, 5171 Glenwood Avenue; friendsoftheraleighgreenway.org
