SUMMARY:East CAC
DESCRIPTION:You all are going to love our special guest for this month’s CAC meeting because he’ll be covering a topic we all really care about! Sean Driskill\, the manager of Raleigh’s Vision Zero program will be presenting at our meeting next Monday.\n\n\nFor those of you who are confused by the program name as I originally was\, Vision Zero refers to the goal of reducing traffic fatalities so much that we end up having zero fatalities. A lofty goal\, but they’re starting out just trying to reduce injuries and fatalities along our transportation network. 🚙 \n\nPlease come to our meeting Monday the 24th at 7 pm at the Lion’s Park Community Center to learn more about how the City of Raleigh is working to achieve this goal and to share your thoughts.\n\nLooking forward to seeing you all there!\n\nBest\,\nJean Mosher\nEast CAC Chair\n\nPS: Please mark your calendars for next month’s special earth day meeting on April 21. Robert will provide an update to those efforts. \nAs you may recall\, all CACs belong to the larger organization\, Raleigh CAC or RCAC. In addition\, Councilor Christina Jones\, is now our Council liaison to facilitate effective communication between our organization and City Council. \nIn other news\, Sarah Shaugnessy\, City Planning\, has provided further information and City web site links about Reflecting Raleigh\, our next Comprehensive Plan update. While I would have preferred an in person update\, she has provided the following information: \n“We have made all of our in-person Community Conversation events accessible online for anyone who was not able to attend. All of the community conversation events were recorded and are available for viewing on Raleigh’s YouTube Chanel. We welcome you and other Midtown CAC members to view them and share your thoughts though our related surveys. I have linked these resources below for ease of access. We will use all of this online community engagement to guide the development of the plan in phase II. \n  \n\nAffordable Housing Summit Recording | Links to Presentations | Housing Priorities Survey\nWeathering the Storm Community Conversation Recording | Links to Presentations | Stormwater Management Survey\nA City in Motion Community Conversation Recording | Links to Presentations | Transportation Survey\n\n  \nIf you wish to speak to a staff member one-on-one\, I would encourage you to attend one of our upcoming Ask-A-Planner events. The focus is trees and urban ecosystems\, but staff are happy to address any questions related to the comprehensive plan. SUMMARY:Hillsborough-Wade CAC (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Hi CAC neighbors\, \nWe have an agenda update for our Hillsborough-Wade CAC meeting this coming Tuesday\, March 25 at 7:00 PM. We will meet on Zoom\, the link is below. \nOur meeting will feature a presentation on AI (Artificial Intelligence). This will be a good opportunity to learn more about AI and how you can use it. \nClick on the below image to watch a 4 minute video about AI. \nAgenda\n• Police report.\n• Update from Hillsborough-Street Community Service Corporation.\n• Presentation about AI: understanding the basics and “how-tos” plus an overview on AI developments and how they impact us.\n• Update on rezoning cases in our CAC. The applicant for rezoning case Z-54-22\, which was voted down by City Council two years ago\, is restarting the process to bring this case back before City Council. Our District D City Councilor led the effort to deny this rezoning request two years ago. Now the applicant is coming forward with some money for the future Smokey Hollow city park and some money for the City’s affordable housing fund. These incentives don’t change the request for 30 stories where 12 stories is already approved for this Downtown Transition area. If approved will this set a new precedent for other Downtown Transition areas? This rezoning location is just outside the eastern edge of the Hillsborough-Wade CAC and is actually within the Mordecai CAC boundary. SUMMARY:Archaeology at Mordecai Historic Park
DESCRIPTION:Professor John Millhauser\, the Director of Anthropology for NCSU\, will work backwards in time\, starting with how people living in the neighborhood use the park today and moving back through the creation of the park in the 1970s\, the establishment of the Mordecai neighborhood\, the property during the Civil War\, and the founding of Raleigh in the late 18th century. The lecture will close with the lives of Indigenous people who lived here for thousands of years before Europeans arrived. We hope you enjoy this closing lecture of the ‘Digging Deeper’ lectures series. \n\nLearn about the recent excavations at Mordecai Historic Park and what a sample of the objects found reveal about the many people whose lives have intersected here.\nWe will work backwards in time\, starting with how people living in the neighborhood use the park today and moving back through the creation of the park in the 1970s\, the people who helped build the Mordecai neighborhood in the first half of the twentieth century; the people who lived on the property before\, during\, and after the civil war; and the people who founded Raleigh in the late eighteenth century. \nWe will close with the lives of Indigenous people who lived here for thousands of years before Europeans arrived and bring the story full circle with the emerging connections to descendent communities like the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina. \nLocation: Mordecai Historic Park\nDate: Saturday\, March 29\nTime: 1 p.m.\nAges: All\nCost: Free \n\n\n\n\n\nSHARE\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://raleighnc.gov/parks-and-recreation/news/archaeology-mordecai-historic-park

SUMMARY:Neighborhood Rezoning Meeting: West Peace Street Assemblage -- Rescheduled to 4/23 at McKimmon Center
DESCRIPTION:RALEIGH NEIGHBORS UNITED received the following from MorningStar Law Group: \n“…given the significant attendance that we now are expecting for our neighborhood meeting next week\, we are rescheduling the meeting planned for April 2nd to a much larger venue.  Simply put\, the room available at the Pullen Community Center is insufficient for the size of the group that we are expecting based upon what we have seen on social media.  We do not believe it would be fair to folks interested in the case to continue with the meeting under the circumstances. \nWe apologize for any inconvenience and would ask that you please let as many of your folks know about this as you can.  We will be mailing out postcards letting the community know of the cancellation and also will be sending a mailed meeting notice once we have a new time/date/venue for the meeting.” \nStay tuned… \nMorningStar has now confirmed the meeting will be rescheduled to 4/23 at the NCSU McKimmon Center \n  \n\n\n\nApr. 02\n5:30 p.m.\nPullen Park Community Center CC Classroom\, 408 Ashe Ave\, Raleigh\, NC 27606\nW Peace St Assemblage\nPre-Submittal \nIX-12 TO DX-30-UG \n(Additional Information)\nD\nJason Barron\n\n\n\nFROM RALEIGH NEIGHBORS UNITED \nACTION: PACK THE ROOM April 2\, 2025\, 5:30 pm for a developer hosted neighborhood meeting at Pullen Community Center\, Classroom 103\, 408 Ashe Ave. Add this to your calendar and plan to be there. We need to make ourselves heard. It is not only about our neighborhood but all Raleigh neighborhoods. Main points of opposition are below. \nThe core team has been busy the last month. (Get Involved) \n\nYard Signs were printed and placed on Glenwood Avenue. Donate to get one and place it in  your yard!\nRaleighNeighborsUnited.com — our website — went live last night with links to Facebook and Instagram. Get Involved by creating content!\nFliers are going out to HGBN* this weekend. Livable Raleigh did fliers in Boylan Heights last week. Get Involved to help with fliers!\nWe had a blog post on Livable Raleigh. Our next post will be next week. Get Involved to join the writing team!\n\nPlease continue to share our message with your friends and neighbors. It is time to mobilize! \nMain Opposition Points \n\nThe facts are clear: >12 stories\, 240 ft from historic homes and in a transition area\, violates 4 plans\, 47 policies\, 2 tables and 3 core definitions. There is not a single policy or plan that would support >12 stories. “Stick to the plans” (More Details)\nIf they force this here\, where policy is clear\, it will set a dangerous precedent to do this near any neighborhood. This is not an HGBN issue.  All neighborhoods are at risk!\nGiven the facts\, you should question any Council Member that votes for this rezoning.\n\n\nSee comfor latest Information and content\n\n*HGBN = HISTORIC GLENWOOD-BROOKLYN NEIGHBORHOOD
