SUMMARY:“Surviving Extinction: Land Claims & Tuscarora Treaties”
DESCRIPTION:I wanted to share an event we are hosting at the Mordecai Historic Park on Feb. 15th at 1p.m. Details below: \nhttps://raleighnc.gov/parks-and-recreation/news/digging-deeper-stories-local-archaeology \nCome join us as Donnie “Rahnàwakęw” McDowell leads the presentation\, “Surviving Extinction: Land Claims & Tuscarora Treaties”\, which analyzes the unique relationships the ancestors of the Tuscarora Nation established with the colonial government of the State of North Carolina. \nBy placing a lens on the original agreements made between the Tuscarora and the new coming colonists\, we better comprehend the diplomatic strategies and cultural philosophies of each culture. Discussions include ancient Tuscarora archaeological sites across the State\, conflict with Europeans during the colonial era\, the establishment of Wake County and the City of Raleigh\, and the NC Assembly’s longstanding policy of Tuscarora disenfranchisement. \nCOST: Free \nBilly Rutherford \nHistoric Sites Program Specialist \nCity of Raleigh \nParks\, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department \n1101 Wake Forest Road \nRaleigh\, NC 27604

SUMMARY:West Raleigh CAC (Virtual) including Lorimer Spring AH Development discussion
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Wednesday February 26th at 7pm\nIt’s time to meet and talk about what’s going on in West Raleigh! \nWe had a detailed discussion with City Planner Keegan McDonald around Transit zoning and the possible Lorimer Spring Affordable Housing Development. \nThis month we will talk with Tim Morgan from Evergreen Construction about the proposed 60 rental apartments that will be age restricted to those 55 years or older. Will these be all affordable rentals? What is the income level that an applicant will need to meet to be eligible to live there? What other sites were considered for this development and why does this site fit the criteria for this level of density? \n  \nWe will have Captain Jonathan Manson from RPD to discuss crime in this area of Raleigh as well as representatives from the Transportation and Utilities departments to talk about the impact along Garland Drive if this proposed development moves forward. \nWe will also hold time for community updates from our members and welcome you to bring any topic to us for consideration at future meetings. \nWe hope you can join us via zoom on Wednesday evening at 7pm. \nZoom Link follows the agenda \n*Agenda* \nLorimer Spring Development \nCommunity Updates \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83981292620 \nMeeting ID: 839 8129 2620 \nOne tap mobile \n+16469313860\,\,83981292620# US \n+19292056099\,\,83981292620# US (New York) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nfollow us on facebook
